Trip to Mauritania: HERDERS IN THE SHADE | Photographer Mónica Sáez

Last places to travel to the Sahara this winter

Winter offers ideal conditions for venturing into the desert. Milder temperatures let us travel without oppressive heat. At this time of year, the Sahara is at its best: cool nights beside a campfire beneath an immense sky, clearer light, and days when we can hike and stop to eat without sweltering.

From spring onwards, temperatures soar, exceeding 45 degrees when summer arrives.

Sleeping under the mantle of winter night stars in the Sahara is an experience that is never forgotten.

The best of travelling to the desert in winter

Comfortable daytime temperatures
During the winter temperatures are much lower and at noon, when in other times of the year the heat is usually unbearable, the temperatures are usually around 25 °C.

Clearer skies
Low humidity and high atmospheric pressure produce clearer, more spectacular skies, ideal for stargazing.

Avoid unpleasant weather
During the winter, the winds are usually moderate, which reduces the chances of facing a sandstorm.
