The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon dependent on solar activity and weather conditions. We can choose the best place and time to maximise our chances of seeing them, but NO guarantee can be made that the northern lights will appear during a short period such as a holiday.
No one can guarantee when the Northern Lights will appear. Neither can we.
We like winter because it offers experiences impossible at other times of year, such as travelling to the desert or seeing thousands of wildebeest giving birth. Today we suggest 3 Winter Adventures to start the year by discovering extraordinary places.
Solar activity directly affects the frequency and intensity of the aurora, but it is not the only factor. To see it, we also need sufficiently dark nights, clear skies and a location away from light pollution.
When is the best time to see the northern lights? Where can you see them?
The best time to see the northern lights in Finland is between October and March.
Winter in Lapland is simply magical. Snow blankets the landscapes and animals adapt to the cold. Staying in a cosy hotel in Inari, we will spend our days exploring the taiga, the immense coniferous forest covering the north of our planet. In December and January, kaamos, also known as the polar night, plunges regions north of the Arctic Circle into darkness.

Because of its extreme latitude, a journey through Alaska is always an adventure. Leaving Anchorage, the capital, we enter the wilderness. Here, tarmac often gives way to dirt tracks (most in excellent condition), and resources are scarce.
Traveling through Alaska with a guide is certainly the best way to get to know this remote state.
Reykjavík is full of charm during the New Year celebrations.

A journey to venture into the land of the grizzlies and the incredible glaciers; a place where they cross ice fields, stunning landscapes of lakes and alpine villages. Alternating between vehicle journeys, walks and snowshoeing, we will venture into the Banff and Jasper National Parks, two of the most spectacular parks in the Canadian Rockies.
We travel in March, perhaps the most beautiful month of all in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and given the sheer scale of the region, the landscapes may have you reaching for another camera memory card: it will be hard to take your finger off the shutter. The pristine peaks, forests and lakes are still covered in snow, but at midday temperatures average 4 to 6 degrees, and daylight lasts until around eight in the evening. It is also the best season to see The northern lights in the area, weather permitting.

The Northern Lights, those glowing green lights appear on a clear night, dancing across the sky in a fascinating, incredible display. Nothing compares with the emotion of seeing an aurora sweep across the sky for the first time. The cold no longer matters; we forget hunger and every other need. No matter how late it is, we stay as long as this magical dance lasts.
