The December long weekend is a chance for a change of scene before Christmas. Sahara dunes, Atlantic islands, hiking or cities with centuries of history: at Tuareg, we offer several ways to make the most of these dates.
Combining public holidays with a few days of annual leave can turn a long weekend into an eight-, nine- or ten-day trip.

When is the December long weekend in 2026?
This year, December 6, Constitution Day, falls on Sunday, and December 8, the Immaculate Conception, on Tuesday.
Monday 7 lets you connect the weekend with Tuesday’s public holiday. In 7 December is a public holiday in Madrid, Andalusia, Aragon, and Castile and León because Constitution Day is observed on a different day. Those with weekends off can enjoy four consecutive days, from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8.
In Catalonia, Bilbao and Valencia, Monday 7 is not a public holiday: if this is a working day for you, take it off to link those four days. Tuesday 8 December is a public holiday throughout Spain.
| Date | Day | Calendar |
|---|---|---|
| 5 December | Saturday | Start of the weekend |
| 6 December | Sunday | Constitution Day |
| 7 December | Monday | Public holiday in some regions |
| 8 December | Tuesday | National holiday |
How to extend the long weekend to nine days
For those who have weekends off, taking Monday the 7th off where necessary lets you combine four days, from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8.
If we add Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11, we can travel until Sunday 13: nine consecutive days, from 5 to 13 December.
In Catalonia, this requires four days’ leave — 7, 9, 10 and 11 — unless your local or work calendar includes other days off. Routes leaving on Friday 4 also require you to allow for that day.
