Sometimes choosing the ideal travel destination feels as difficult as choosing between Mum and Dad. There is no definitive answer: each has its strengths and weaknesses. The decision is even harder in Southeast Asia, where several countries share similarities in climate, culture and landscapes. So which is the perfect Southeast Asian country to explore?
In Viajes Tuareg we understand that the choice best country to visit in Southeast Asia will depend to a large extent on your specific preferences and circumstances. Are you looking for jungle adventures or paradise beaches? For travel alone for a group trip? Would you prefer to visit in October or December?
To help you find the country that best suits your needs, we have consulted our experts.

Which Southeast Asian country is best for travel?
We begin by asking our manager Jordi, whose extensive travel experience offers a valuable perspective. Pay attention: his opinion matters.
Jordi, Which Southeast Asian country would you recommend for a trip?
Jordi: For me, Thailand is an exceptional destination with something for everyone. Floating markets and golden temples offer a taste of the unfamiliar; active travellers can explore jungles and mountains or try water sports. Thailand also has well-developed tourism infrastructure. There are still authentic, little-known places off the usual routes where you can meet ethnic minorities and discover their way of life.
Next is Pere. Although he is no longer on our team, he planned trips through Southeast Asia at Viatges Tuareg for more than 10 years and knows the region intimately.
Pere: Southeast Asia is a tapestry of territories with different ethnic groups, cultures and traditions, yet shared characteristics make the region unique. I would highlight the vibrant food and abundance of street stalls in Vietnam.
Thailand stands out for its extensive infrastructure and modernity, making it easy to explore in comfort.
I would recommend travelling to see the majestic Mekong as it flows through Laos and Cambodia. More than just a river, the Mekong is a vital artery of communication and commerce in Southeast Asia. In addition, I am impressed by the deep Buddhist religiosity in Myanmar, evident in its many temples, monasteries and in its influence on the lifestyle of its population.
Continuing with the management team, we ask Francesca, a partner at Viajes Tuareg. Francesca, Which Southeast Asian country do you think is the best?
Francesca: In Southeast Asia, I would choose Vietnam, for the variety of its landscape. From the rice paddies of the Sapa mountains in the far north to the islands of the Mekong River Delta in the south, passing through Halong Bay and the central coast. The people’s resilience is also striking, as is the contrast between rural life and the frenetic activity of large cities.
Next is Gemma, a Tuareg travel agent. Gemma, which Southeast Asian destination would you recommend?
Gemma: I am fascinated by Myanmar, a country of unique beauty and authenticity. However, the current political situation makes travelling there complicated. That is why I would recommend Sri Lanka, a destination that offers a perfect combination of history, nature and culture. Its beaches, mountains and ancient temples create a fascinating environment for any traveller, and its well-developed tourist infrastructure facilitates the experience.

Now we turn to Joan, one of our agents who knows Sri Lanka like the back of his hand — he is our specialist for the destination. We can guess what he will say, but still... Joan, if you had to say which Southeast Asian country is best to visit, What would you say?
Joan: Without a doubt, my choice is Sri Lanka, for its spectacular natural landscapes, its ancient history in cities such as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, and its mountains covered in tea plantations, their diversity of religions, their deserted beaches and above all the kindness of their people. It's perfect for all kinds of travelers.
We now ask Sela, a former Tuareg travel agent. She spent 7 months exploring Southeast Asia, so her opinion carries weight. Sela, of all the countries you visited in Southeast Asia, which one do you consider the best?
Sela:Indonesia It left a deep impression on me. In Sumatra, walking among orangutans in the jungle was incredible; in Java, Borobudur and Prambanan impressed me, and sunrise at Bromo volcano was magical. Bali has everything: culture, nature and spectacular beaches.
I would have loved to recommend Myanmar, but the current political situation makes it difficult to travel there.
Cambodia, though none of our experts chose it as their favourite destination, is the perfect place to round off a trip through Southeast Asia in style.

Next is Yolanda, an experienced Tuareg travel agent who has recently been there. Let’s see what she thinks. Yolanda, Which Southeast Asian country is your favourite?
Yolanda: No doubt Vietnam, a country that leaves no one indifferent. Its people, the colours of its markets, the variety from north to south and its generally good infrastructure, mean Vietnam meets many of the things travellers look for. Its history, monuments contrasting with green terraces, and the simplicity and warmth of its people are captivating!

We turn to Romina, another member of our team, who has travelled through Southeast Asia in search of adventure. Romina, Which Southeast Asian destination would you choose?
Romina: Hmm… I would choose Indonesia. Culturally speaking, it is a country of countries, with important differences between its islands in terms of religion, customs and traditions. Apart from this cultural wealth, the landscapes are spectacular: Paradise beaches, huge volcanoes, and great coral reefss for diving enthusiasts. To see the country in depth, however, you need frequent domestic flights and ferries, which inevitably increases the cost. Even so, it is 100% recommended!
Now we turn to Xavi, a Tuareg agent who has visited recently. Xavi, Which country in Southeast Asia is best to visit?
Xavi: I would say that Thailand, as it is developed enough for tourism to offer all kinds of travel options, yet exotic enough to surprise visitors. Undoubtedly, it is the best destination in Southeast Asia to propose a family trip with children; safe, with good accommodation, good food and activities the children will remember for life.
Finally, Montse, another member of the Tuareg team. She also knows several Southeast Asian countries and always has interesting things to tell us. Montse, if you had to choose a destination in Southeast Asia, what would you say is the best?
Montse: Without thinking about it, Indonesia. It is an exceptionally rich cultural destination. I still remember the remote villages and celebrations of Toraja Country — I have rarely seen anything so authentic! Its natural diversity is spectacular too, and although not every area suits everyone, the destination can meet all a traveller’s needs.
Now that you know the opinions of our team, it may be easier for you to decide. So, What Southeast Asian country would you travel to?
