Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia: when to visit the Baltic States in 2027

What is the best time to travel to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia? It depends on how you want to discover the Baltic countries.

Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn are the thread running through our journeys, but the landscape changes with the seasons. In spring, forests and wetlands awaken; around the solstice, the days seem endless; summer brings nature at its most vibrant; and autumn fills the national parks with ochre, red and gold.

For 2027 we have planned several departures through Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, adapting the route to the season to make the most of the scenery, daylight hours and activities.

Travel to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in 2027

The Baltic Republics are among northern Europe’s most fascinating destinations: three relatively small countries where a single trip can combine historic cities, medieval castles, forests, wetlands, dunes and the Baltic coast.

Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn each have a distinctive historic centre. Between the capitals lie natural areas such as the Curonian Spit, Ķemeri National Park, the Gauja Valley and Lahemaa National Park.

This balance between culture and nature is one of the defining features of our trips.

In the morning we might be walking along wooden boardwalks over a peat bog and, a few hours later, exploring the historic centre of Riga or Tallinn.

Which season should you choose for a trip to the Baltic States?

Season Departure Duration Highlights
Easter 20 March 2027 9 days The awakening of nature and a more compact route
Spring 18 April, 2 and 16 May 12 days Green forests, flowers, wetlands and mild temperatures
Solstice 20 June 12 days Long daylight hours and the atmosphere of early summer
Summer 11 July, 1 and 15 August 12 days Long days, nature and outdoor activities
Autumn 3 and 24 October 12 days Golden forests, autumn colours and a quieter atmosphere

Easter: The Baltic Awakening

The first departure of the year is on 20 March 2027. It is also our shortest itinerary, lasting 9 days.

After winter, the region begins to change rapidly. Days grow longer and forests awaken. The trip combines the three capitals with medieval fortresses, natural areas and some of the route’s characteristic walks.

It is a good option if you want to discover the three Baltic States over the Easter holidays without having two full weeks.

The route retains the essence of our trips in the region: heritage, nature and easy walks. The current programme describes it as a cultural and active trip in a small group.

Baltic Spring: culture and nature

In April and May the route is extended to 12 days, allowing more time to explore the three countries.

Departures are on 18 April, 2 May and 16 May 2027.

Spring transforms the natural landscape. Gardens and parks blossom in Vilnius, greenery returns around Lake Galve in Trakai, and Latvia’s wetlands become lively once more.

In the Kemeri National Park we walk around 3.4 km along wooden boardwalks crossing an extensive peat bog of dark pools, pines and birches. We then continue towards the coast at Jūrmala.

Another highlight is the Curonian Spit, where we combine dunes and coastal scenery with an easy bike ride of approximately 16 kilometres.

Baltic Solstice Route

The 20 June 2027 we offer a special departure coinciding with one of northern Europe’s most distinctive times of year: the summer solstice.

The days are extraordinarily long, with daylight lasting well into the evening. This changes the rhythm of city life and gives you time to enjoy the scenery and outdoor activities at a relaxed pace.

The route visits Vilnius, Trakai, Kaunas, the Curonian Spit, Riga, Ķemeri, the Gauja Valley, Tartu, Lahemaa and Tallinn.

On the Curonian Spit, we get back on our bikes for an easy ride of around 16 kilometres through one of the Baltic’s most distinctive coastal landscapes.

A route designed to take advantage of the longest days of the year.

Baltic Summer: nature and endless days

Our summer departures are on 11 July, 1 August and 15 August 2027.

This is the liveliest time in both the national parks and the cities. Café terraces fill the squares of Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, while long daylight hours let you make the most of each day.

The itinerary combines the three capitals with Trakai, the Curonian Spit, Ķemeri, Gauja and Lahemaa.

The bike ride on the Curonian Spit is easy and almost entirely flat, covering approximately 16 km along a cycle path that forms part of EuroVelo 10.

✔️ 12-day trip
✔️ Departures 11 JUL, 1 and 15 AUG 2027
✔️ Multi-activity trip

National park walks, cycling beside the Baltic, medieval castles and three historic capitals during summer’s longest and brightest days.

Autumn: golden forests and cities with history

The last departures of the year are on 3 and 24 October 2027.

Possibly the trip’s most photogenic season. Vilnius, Trakai and the national parks change colour; forests turn yellow, red and ochre; and Ķemeri’s wetlands look entirely different from spring or summer. In the Gauja National Park, forested hills, sandstone outcrops and glacial valleys create some of the route’s most striking scenery.

The route continues to Tartu and Lahemaa National Park before ending in Tallinn.

What do all our Baltic trips have in common?

Although we adapt the itinerary to the season, certain places and experiences define the route.

Vilnius, with its Baroque historic centre and the peculiar artistic district of Užupis.

Trakai, with its medieval castle surrounded by Lake Galvė.

The Curonian Spit, a narrow tongue of sand, forest and huge dunes by the Baltic Sea.

Riga, where the historic centre sits alongside one of Europe’s most important collections of Art Nouveau architecture.

Kemeri, with its boardwalks over peat bogs and lagoons.

The Gauja Valley, among forests, castles and sandstone formations.

Tallinn, with one of northern Europe's best-preserved medieval old towns.

So, when should you visit Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia?

Easter, if you have fewer days and want an introduction to the three countries.

Spring, if you are looking for mild temperatures, fresh greenery and a well-balanced combination of cities and nature.

Solstice and summer, if you want to make the most of long daylight hours, outdoor activities and the atmosphere of the Baltic cities.

Autumn, if scenery, photography and the colours of the forests are your main interests.

The route matters, but in the Baltic States the season is also part of the journey.

Availability and conditions may change for each departure. Always check the trip information for the latest details before booking.
