A new edition of Viajes Tuareg photo and video competition. One hundred and seventy participants and a total of 790 photos presented.
After the 21 finalist photographs chosen by Viatges Tuareg’s staff, Gervasio Sanchez has chosen the winners of this year’s competition.
Once again, extraordinary images show us the world through travellers’ eyes, with an exceptional standard of quality for a competition of this kind.
Congratulations to Oscar Blanco Valera and a Francisco Martínez and many thanks to everyone for participating with photos of such high quality.

First prize and winner of the Viajes Tuareg Photography Competition
First prize goes to Oscar Blanco Varela for his northern lights photograph. He will receive the €1,000 awarded for first prize.
Gervasio Sánchez tells us about the photograph:
“The photographer has achieved an excellent shot in very difficult light. Night photography requires strong technical skills for good results. This extraordinary situation makes a beautifully resolved photograph like this even harder to achieve.”
Second prize of the Photo Contest Viatges Tuareg
In second place, Francisco Martínez’s image won 500 euros.
Gervasio Sánchez says of the photograph:
“The author has managed to capture the intimate atmosphere that is breathed inside a mosque without losing the majesty of the place. Although there are thousands of images of mosques or places of worship, it is difficult to find that balance between intimacy and majesty."
Video remains the smaller sibling of the competition. The numbers speak for themselves: almost 200 photography entrants and only 10 video entrants.
Winner in the category of travel videos
This year, the finalists included Mario Cubellles (Antarctica), Jaime Buxados (Iceland) and Gaizka Izaguirre. After repeatedly watching the entries, trying to convince colleagues of their obvious error in not voting for our favourite, and accepting the majority decision, the prize went to Gaizka Izaguirre, who filmed his video on the trip “Thailand – trekking among ethnic minorities and southern beaches“ in August 2014.
