Ethnic groups in the Sapa mountains | Exploring the tribes of northern Vietnam

Sapa is much more than a tourist destination; it is a melting pot of cultures, a living testimony of harmonious coexistence between the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Zay and Xa Pho ethnic groups. From the vibrant palette of traditional costumes to the ancient melodies that resonate in the hills, each corner of Sapa tells a unique story that reflects the richness of ethnic diversity.

Featured trips to celebrate the end of 2020

Christmas is for many the best time of year to travel. Better weather in some destinations, better prices in others; more and more people decide travel during the Christmas holidays. However, constant changes to border policies in our destinations have greatly reduced our range of trips. Our programme, which usually offers more than 50 Christmas destinations, has been reduced to fewer than 20 trips.

Some countries have been more successful than others in combating the pandemic, and it is precisely in these countries that we have focused our attention on the preparation of the Christmas holiday trips.

Autumn trips 2020: where can we travel and what do we need?

Travel now or leave it for another time? There are different points of view, and each has some merit.

On behalf of Viajes Tuareg, as travel professionals, we simply do what we know: suggest itineraries where the authorities so authorize and adapt the type of trip to current health requirements.

Here are our proposals for the coming months of September and October.

Greenland prepares to receive visitors

What is the best time to travel to Greenland?

Summer is certainly the best time to travel to Greenland

Greenland’s entire coastal strip, especially in the south, is free of ice and snow in summer, so our hikes pass through snow-free areas of willow and dwarf birch.

Making the most of the long summer daylight hours, it is possible to undertake treks varied, with elevation changes of 50 to 550 m and around 2 to 6 hours of actual walking, all in daylight. Most routes are cross-country, as there are no tracks or trails in Greenland, but walking poses no difficulty in summer.

Can we travel to Canada in July?

There are reasons to be optimistic. Canada may begin reopening its borders to tourist travel on 1 July

Asked whether Canada will lift its COVID-19 travel restrictions on 1 July 2020, the answer for now is “no one knows”. However, given the federal government’s recent actions and the apparent decline in Canada’s pandemic curve, an opening may be possible on 1 July. The Canadian government will lift restrictions when it believes it is safe to do so.

Cambodia prepares to receive visitors

Cambodia, a safe destination

The proximity of the countries of South-East Asia to the first epicentre of the pandemic in China led to the early adoption of measures and the closure of borders of all neighbouring countries. For Cambodia confirmed cases of coronavirus are rare, and daily life in the country is currently completely normal.

The Cambodian authorities maintain some health measures and recommendations, which do not affect the smooth running of our trips in the country.

South Korea allows visitors with restrictions

After a wave of infections, South Korea was able to significantly reduce the number of new cases of Covid-19, while maintaining a relatively low mortality rate. The country has attracted attention for a strategy combining public information, community participation and a mass testing campaign.

South Korea carried out more tests than any other country, allowing it to tackle outbreaks very early

In the same spirit of public participation, everyone arriving in South Korea, regardless of where they come from, will be subject to “special procedures” (quarantine).

The legendary Tea Horse Road

The legendary Tea Horse Road

This legendary route will introduce us, guided by a Spanish-speaking guide with expert knowledge of Tibet, the regions of Yunnan and Sichuan. Two regions of China home to almost half of the country’s ethnic groups, and which for thousands of years enabled the trade of tea carried by the legendary Tibetan horses.

This route presents no particular difficulties, apart from any discomfort caused by the altitude.

The 'other' Timkat Celebration on the shores of Lake Ziway

The “other” Timkat on the shores of Lake Ziway

The celebration of the Epiphany with Timkat in Ethiopia is not exclusive to the north of the country. On this trip, we suggest travelling with our guide, a Spanish resident in Gondar, who will help us experience a genuine celebration first hand in Ziway, on the shores of the lake in the south of the country.

We will complete the trip with a tour of the most emblematic places in the southern part of Ethiopia and visiting some markets.

Reviews of a trip to Peru this summer

Year after year we review our itineraries and listen to suggestions from travellers and local partners to find out what we can improve on our trips. We know it can be hard to find time to share your views, so we created the traveller feedback prize draw with a chance to win 200 euros for giving us your impressions of the trip.

We have received thousands of reviews since we started this project in 2012. Some have been decisive factors in changes to our routes and most help us improve details that would otherwise escape our attention.

Sometimes, your suggestions and opinions make us look up from our desks, look up at the sky, stretch out your arms and smile with satisfaction ;). Many things can go wrong on a trip: bad weather, delays, vehicle breakdowns and even clashing personalities within the group can stop it being that “perfect trip” you fondly recall with friends.

Paloma S. sends us her opinions and comments about trip to Peru organised by Viajes Tuareg this summer and we want to share them with you because these are the reviews that give us a real sense of satisfaction and encourage us to keep improving our routes.

  • How did you hear about our trip?
    On recommendation.
  • Suggestions for future trips:
Keep offering such interesting routes to other destinations and reward regular customers with lower prices where possible.
  • Impressions of the trip of interest to other travellers
Very good. It met my expectations. A fantastic trip that I would recommend to anyone wanting to explore part of Peru.
  • The best of the trip:
The organisation, the logistics and everyone involved in making it possible, especially Joana, our guide for the whole trip, Rómulo, the guide in Puno, and Calisto’s family on Lake Titicaca. Our fellow travellers were exceptional too. Being of similar ages and having similar travel experience really helped us get on well.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, PALOMA!!!

Trip to Brazil in October

For lovers of unspoilt nature, we have organized this trip to Brazil in October travelling up the Amazon River from Manaus to the Anavilhanas Archipelago, deep in the jungle.

> Small Group Trip to Brazil
> Amazon expedition trip: 13 days
> Trip departing on 13 October

On board a regional boat equipped for trips and expeditions in the Amazon, we will travel up its tributaries to meet indigenous communities, see pink dolphins and take canoe trips through the flooded forest.

Ships have all possible comforts for expeditions of this type and we are accompanied by a crew and, at times, local guides who will introduce us to life in the Amazon river communities. They usually have two decks, and cabins with toilets can be booked depending on the size of the group. Built from wood, they are simple and comfortable.

The Amazon River is Manaus’s main transport artery.

The Amazon is immense and unstoppable. Leaving its main channel behind, we find the jungle we were hoping for among the tributaries and waterways.

INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES

Upriver, we stop at several Indigenous communities. Travellers can observe the difference between those where NGOs are present

During the trip, we anchor the boat in quiet stretches of the Apuau River, which will serve as our “base camp” for several days.

At night, those who wish can leave the safety of the boat and camp in the jungle: an explosion of sounds, smells, darkness and caimans… a real face-to-face encounter with nature.
