Cambodia, a safe destination
The proximity of the countries of South-East Asia to the first epicentre of the pandemic in China led to the early adoption of measures and the closure of borders of all neighbouring countries. For Cambodia confirmed cases of coronavirus are rare, and daily life in the country is currently completely normal.
The Cambodian authorities maintain some health measures and recommendations, which do not affect the smooth running of our trips in the country.
We have updated our tours
Despite the impressive cultural legacy of its Khmer temples, Cambodia remains one of Southeast Asia’s less-known destinations and has so far avoided mass tourism. Our trips offer encounters with northern rural villages and life on the Mekong, with little contact with other travellers. At Angkor, the main tourist attraction, the site’s vast size and official access controls ensure that safety standards can be met.
Our trips to Cambodia
> Hiking trip from 12 days
> Departures on 14, 28 July 2020
> Price from 1.480 €
We propose a trip to Cambodia with a Spanish-speaking guide to discover Angkor’s most spectacular Khmer temples, villages in the rural north and life along the Mekong. From Kratie, on the Mekong, we will travel to meet ethnic minorities in remote Ratanakiri.
Cambodia is undergoing many changes, and has an acceptable road network, which allows us access to remote places that until recently were inaccessible to the visitor.

Update of 29 May
Today, Thursday 29 May, our Viajes Tuareg offices received a notification from Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, addressed to “All air carriers currently operating in and out of kingdom of Cambodia”. The notice, transcribed below, also sets out the measures all visitors arriving by air must follow.

Foreign visitors wishing to enter Cambodia must obtain a visa from an embassy in their country. They must also provide proof of health insurance covering at least USD 50,000 and a medical certificate from local health authorities confirming that they have tested negative for COVID-19.
To travel to Cambodia it is necessary to obtain the negative certificate within 72 hours prior to the date of travel.
On May 20, the national news agency Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) announced that Cambodia had opened its borders for travellers from six countries: Iran, Italy, Germany, Spain, France and the United States.
Updated 5 May
Cambodia, which has so far been one of the last countries in South-East Asia to keep borders (almost) fully open, increases restrictions on entry of citizens of other countries due to COVID-19
Cambodia has recently been a favourite destination for those avoiding border closures and quarantine elsewhere, as it has only a partial closure.
As stated by the Lieutenant General Leang Phearom, Head of Border Protection Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior;
“All border crossings in 19 locations, including the international border checkpoint with Thailand, are closed, ” said Leang Phearom.
This follows last week’s suspension of activity at the border with Vietnam. Thailand and now Laos, which officially reports no cases, have followed suit amid fears of new COVID-19 cases.
"All border activities, including the movement of people, are affected, but the exchange of goods at international border checkpoints will be allowed after truckers are thoroughly examined to detect the coronavirus," added Lieutenant General Phearom.
Officially, border closures will remain until April 5. However, like similar closures in places like the Philippines, the date is very provisional, and its reopening depends to a large extent on whether the spread of the coronavirus has stopped.
Cambodia offers a one-month visa on arrival to visitors from many countries. It can be extended for one further month, but additional extensions require a visa.
