Before putting on your boots, it is crucial to choose the right route.
Before embarking on a trek, it is crucial to select the perfect trip that suits your desires and needs. Choosing the ideal trip will depend on various factors: the time of year you choose, your current physical condition, the goals you seek to achieve and, of course, your available budget.

Choose a trekking route
To choose the right trekking route and make the most of your holiday, consider:
- Your physical condition: Choose a route that suits your level of experience and fitness.
- Your Objectives: Define your goals to choose the route that best suits what you want.
- Your budget: There are options for every budget.

Now that we know what to consider when choosing a trek, let’s look at the factors that can influence our choice of destination.
Choose a trek to suit your fitness
Choosing the right route depends on a crucial factor: your fitness. To enjoy a trek, it is essential to select one that suits your experience and physical condition.
Grade A – Easy walking
You enjoy nature walks and seek a relaxed experience. An ideal start to hiking.
Grade B – Regular hikers looking for more
Uneven terrain with some uphill sections and several hours of walking. For people with a good general level of fitness.
Grade C – Mountain experience
You have the physical and mental ability to tackle challenges ranging from substantial elevation gains to difficult terrain.
Grade D – High mountains and ascents
Technical skills (ropes or crampons) and high-mountain experience.

Choose a trek based on your goals
Are you drawn to imposing peaks, majestic glaciers or wildlife? Do you prefer colourful landscapes or historic routes? Decide what you want from your trip and discover your perfect trek. Whatever your passion, there is a trek for you.
Spectacular landscapes
Trekking focused on spectacular landscapes will allow you to enjoy unforgettable views. For example, Madeira's levadas offer lush forests and cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, while Lake Son Kul in Kyrgyzstan will take you through alpine meadows surrounded by majestic mountains.
Historical routes
If you prefer to walk on trails full of history, trekking on historic routes is perfect for you. Ancient roads, archaeological ruins and emblematic places that tell stories of past times. For example, trekking in Petra, Jordan, will take you through the ancient rock-carved Nabatean city. In Greece, hiking along the ancient paths of Mount Olympus will allow you to explore the ruins and myths of Greek civilization.

Reach the top
For those drawn to the challenge of great heights, options include trekking to Everest Base Camp, surrounded by some of the world’s highest mountains, or climbing Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. These treks offer the satisfaction of reaching high elevations and enjoying unique views.

Choose a trek based on your budget
Dreaming of a trek but worried about the cost? There are options for everyone. Set your budget (1000€, 2000€ or 3000€) and discover routes to suit it. Duration, airfares, national park entrance fees and other factors all affect a trekking budget.
Trekking for up to 1,500 euros
Many of the trips rated highest in our post-trip surveys fall into this category: lasting just over a week and without the added cost of very expensive international flights.
Trekking up to 2,500 euros
They are usually trips of up to 15 days where hiking and visits to the main points of each country are combined.
Trekking for more than 2,500 euros
