The announcement of an early election caught us all by surprise. Many of us had planned to travel in the second half of July and had already booked our holidays or were choosing our destination. Whatever your situation, you can rest assured if you are planning to travel with Viajes Tuareg.
If I am called up for polling station duties, can I cancel my trip?
You can cancel your trip, but the general and specific conditions for cancellations by the traveller will apply, including any cancellation charges they provide for. In other words, cancelling for this reason DOES incur cancellation charges. Here are your options for dealing with the situation.
Can I go on with my trip?
We all want to go ahead with our plans. To do so, we can submit representations to the Electoral Board requesting exemption from polling station duties.
The Central Electoral Board lists circumstances that prevent someone from serving at a polling station. A trip booked before the appointment is not mentioned among them. Nevertheless, although each local board may decide appeals differently, experience tells us that many travellers are exempt from serving at a polling station when they claim (and can demonstrate) that they have a booked trip before receiving notification.
If you wish to submit a request for exemption, we will provide the supporting documents for your application to the Electoral Board. The Board will decide whether to accept the reason given.
What if the Election Board denies my request?
Your travel insurance would cover, up to the contracted limit, cancellation for this reason. People who have booked a group trip with Tuareg have travel insurance that includes travel cancellation coverage (AXA VIPPLUS), among others the following:
“The Insurer will cover the actual trip cancellation costs contractually due to the organiser, up to the maximum stated in the policy’s specific conditions and insurance certificate, when the Insured cancels the trip before departure for reasons of: …/…
- 3. Being called to serve as a polling station official during the trip dates. The event causing cancellation must always occur after the policy was taken out
Don’t miss your chance to vote!
If you will be travelling on those dates, remember that you can vote by post. Don’t leave it until the last minute…
