The cherry blossom—벚꽃 (Beotkkot)—is the flower of February and a symbol of renewal and fleeting beauty.
The origins and history of cherry blossoms in Korea are controversial. Some say the Japanese planted the trees, while others argue that they were already present in the country and valued as a useful material long before the Japanese arrived.
Korean tradition states that cherry wood was used to produce wooden blocks and arches, and monks used cherry wood, white birch and silver magnolia found on the southern coast of the peninsula.

The Beotkkot

Beneath arches of dancing petals, festivals celebrate the arrival of spring with music, dance and traditions in a feast for the senses. This fleeting phenomenon, when cherry trees unfurl their delicate pink blossoms, symbolises renewal and the transient beauty of life.
Jeju’s Olle trails
If you seek inner peace and tranquillity on your travels, Jeju Island is an excellent choice. Its beautiful natural surroundings refresh body and soul, and simply walking its trails is enough to feel revitalised. Koreans’ love of hiking began on Jeju Island.
