New Year's Eve in Petra

Archaeology and deserts tour in Jordan for these Christmas holidays.

A trip to Jordan adapted to winter conditions. A short route tailored to the daylight hours, taking us to world-class attractions such as the archaeological sites of Petra and Jerash, spectacular deserts such as Wadi Rum, and the unusually salty waters of the Dead Sea.

Celebrating the end of the year in Petra

We will spend New Year’s Eve in Petra and devote the first day of 2023 to exploring the remains of the ancient Nabataean city. After this spectacular start to the year, we will visit Little Petra the next day, an archaeological site 14 kilometres to the north.

Jordan is a small country with short distances, allowing us to discover its highlights without long journeys.

We visit Bedouin lands that now enjoy a good standard of living; Jordan is one of the region's wealthiest and most stable countries. The Dead Sea, the Nabataean city of Petra, Wadi Rum and the biblical sites of Mount Nebo and Madaba are highlights of this New Year trip.

Highlights of the trip

  • Petra >>  A crack that opens in the mountain gives access to this city; a place that no one should miss.
  • Wadi Rum >> Spectacular canyons and rock formations amid a sea of dunes.
  • Dead Sea >> Float effortlessly in the hypersaline lake.

Weather on the trip

Consider the time of year when preparing for the walks and camping night. Winter nights can be very cold, especially in desert areas.

No special footwear is required for hiking.
