There is no Planet B — Chapter 2

If there is one thing every traveller can agree on, it is that the world around us is wonderful. We know its beauty and understand the importance of preserving it. But no one is born knowing everything, and sometimes it is hard to know how we can help protect our planet. That is why we continue with “There is no planet B«, a series of publications in which we will try to give advice on actions that can help us preserve our wonderful world. Let's start!

Chapter 2: Less is more.

Those who regularly travel with us know that our trips aim to offer a different experience, in which we try to explore each place in greater depth, whether exploring nature, meeting local people or gaining a deeper understanding of culture. This focus means spending more time in each place, often at the expense of visiting other sights. It reflects our approach, even if it makes us less commercial and distances us from mass-tourism itineraries that aim to fit in as many stops as possible. At Viajes Tuareg, we believe reaching a place is only part of the journey: we must take time to understand where we are. As well as being far more enriching, it is much more sustainable.

But what are the Travel benefits like this?

1. Fewer transfers, more experiences.

Less time on buses and more time with people. Spending enough time in one place allows us to know in depth their natural environment, their culture and their people. This approach also reduces distances travelled, making it kinder to the environment. An 8-day trip through 4 countries? That is hardly travelling in our view.

2. Less 'fake«, more authenticity.

Experience tells us that places featured in every guidebook often become the least authentic. They also receive the most visitors and most of tourism’s economic benefits. Routes that spread tourism more widely are not only more interesting, ensure a more equitable distribution of wealth that generates our activity, giving opportunities to other people.

3. Fewer, longer trips.

Travellers naturally want to see as much as possible. We don’t know whether we will return, so we want to visit as many places as we can. That is fine, but we must allow enough time. If you are exploring a large destination or region, better than making many trips to the place, take your time. As well as saving money, you will travel more responsibly.
