The departure on 29 September 2026 Explore South Africa on an itinerary combining some of its greatest attractions: Cape Town, the Cape Peninsula, the vineyards, Hermanus, the Garden Route and Addo National Park.
Designed for travellers who want to go beyond a traditional safari and explore the country actively, alternating hiking, wildlife watching, coastal landscapes and cultural experiences.
This route is part of our selection of travel in September, a particularly interesting time to discover southern Africa.
South Africa: Hiking, Safaris and the Garden Route
There are countries like South Africa where nature is constantly changing scenery: mountains, wild coasts, vineyards, forests, beaches, African fauna and cultural wealth coexist on the same journey.
Our itinerary South Africa: The Southern Route combines some of these landscapes with hiking, wildlife watching and cultural experiences, from Cape Town to Addo National Park via the Garden Route, Hermanus and Cape Agulhas.
A tour designed for those who enjoy walking and want to discover South Africa actively.

Trip to South Africa: hiking, nature and safari
The itinerary combines safari and hiking to explore South Africa from different perspectives.
The tour begins in Cape Town, a city between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountain. From there, we visit the Cape Peninsula, Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach’s African penguin colony, then climb Table Mountain.
The journey then explores San culture, continues through Franschhoek’s vineyards and visits Kogelberg Nature Reserve, one of the region’s most interesting natural areas.

The Garden Route, one of the great landscapes of South Africa
Few routes gather in as little distance a succession of landscapes as varied as the South African Garden Route.
We visit some of its best-known places: Hermanus, Plettenberg Bay, Robberg, Tsitsikamma and Knysna, combining coastal trails with forests, beaches and Indian Ocean viewpoints.
This variety of landscapes and activities is precisely one of the most valued aspects of South Africa.
Jorge D., who travelled through South Africa on a Fly & Drive trip, sums up the feeling perfectly:
"The best was the variety of activities and the balance between them."

Why travel to South Africa at the end of September?
At the end of September the southern spring begins, a particularly attractive period to combine the different experiences offered by this route.
In the Hermanus area it also coincides with the season in which the Southern right whales approach the South African coast, while temperatures allow you to continue enjoying the walks and outdoor activities planned during the tour.
The combination of coast, hiking, marine wildlife and safaris makes the departure on 29 September at a particularly rewarding time for the Southern Route.
Whales, penguins and sharks in South Africa
Few regions combine such abundant marine wildlife with such varied coastal landscapes.
During the tour it is possible to see southern right whales from the Hermanus area, visit the colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach or participate in shark watching activities from a boat.
These experiences reveal a very different side of South Africa from its large inland safari parks.

The Grand Finale: Safari in the Addo National Park
After travelling along the coast comes one of the trip’s most anticipated moments: the safari in the Addo National Park.
Addo is home to a large population of African elephants, alongside lions, buffalo, rhinoceroses and many antelope and bird species.
Safaris explore the park in search of wildlife, making the most of the best viewing hours.
Travellers often agree that encounters with African wildlife are among the tour’s most exciting moments.
M. Mercè explains it this way:
“The best part of the trip is being in the savannah, watching wildlife and discovering the mix of ethnic groups. It has all been very enriching.”
Manel E., a keen safari enthusiast, says:
“The sightings were spectacular. We never tired of safaris. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys watching wildlife.”

Much more than nature
South Africa also surprises visitors with its cultural diversity.
The Malay neighborhood of Bo-Kaap, the history of the San people, the wine tradition of Franschhoek or the mixture of cultures that characterizes the country provide a human dimension that makes the trip a much more complete experience.
As one of our travellers explains:
“A very exciting journey, exploring both the country’s wildest landscapes and its history and culture.”

A very well-organised South Africa trip
One of the points travellers mention most often in their feedback is how well the route is organised.
Juan Carlos Herrero sums it up as follows:
“A very well-organised trip, with no incidents and everything as expected. The description matched the experience.”
A view shared by Ingrid:
“Very good. Organisation, guides, hikes and safaris.”

Who is this trip to South Africa for?
This itinerary by South Africa is designed for active travellers who enjoy walking and want to discover the country in a different way.
You don’t need to be a mountaineer, but you should enjoy walking trails, rising early for safaris, watching whales from the coast, exploring fynbos landscapes and discovering southern Africa’s great natural areas.
It is a journey where nature constantly changes scenery and where each day offers a different experience.

“A comprehensive trip combining safari and hiking.”
