Senegal Opens Borders to Visitors

We've been waiting for you!

The Country of the Teranga has opened its doors to the citizens of the European Union!

Without quarantine, we can go back to Senegal!

Teranga – a Wolof word – often described as a mixture of hospitality, solidarity and respect. But, as the Senegalese say, it is much more: a way of life, a set of values that guides their lives.

Our correspondents in Senegal report that borders are opening to travellers. Arrival procedures in Senegal have been simplified, with no quarantine required on arrival or return.

This multi-ethnic country has shared centuries of suffering, from slavery, as seen on Gorée Island, to colonisation, whose French architectural legacy remains in Saint-Louis. When independence came in 1960, ethnic, linguistic and religious differences still existed.

Senegal covers 196,722 square kilometres, less than half the area of Spain, yet its history and location give it an extraordinary cultural richness.

Léopold Sédar Senghor, the first president of Senegal, was involved in bringing together the various ethnic groups under the umbrella of the Senegalese nation with the intention of forging a national identity through these values.

Teranga is synonymous with Senegal, appearing everywhere from cafés to the national football team, the “Lions of Teranga”.
