Sierra Maestra, the path of revolution

“Ever onward to victory. Homeland or death.” Che Guevara

Travelling in Cuba is a treat: Havana, the beaches… And shared language and cultural ties allow us to venture beyond the obvious discover the places where Cubans live and enjoy themselves.

Sierra Maestra in Santiago de Cuba province, bordering Granma. It became part of modern Cuban history when the Castro brothers, Camilo and Che Guevara retreated into its lush vegetation and mist in the late 50s to organise the revolution against Fulgencio Batista.

This is rumoured to be one of the last seasons when we can follow the rebels’ trails: part history lesson, part natural landscape and a spectacular place for birdwatching.

The tour of Sierra Maestra to Havana takes us to visit such extraordinary places as Trinidad, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba, a legacy of colonial times and with more than 500 years of history in its streets and roads.

To keep enjoying life like the Cubans, pause to savour the excellent food in their paladares, or private restaurants. Rest after long days by staying in private homes and experiencing authentic Cuban hospitality.

Sierra Maestra is located near the sea, a situation that allows us to relax and sunbathe on white sandy beaches and coral reefs such as Playa Maguana and La Farola.
