May is the perfect month to venture into the heart of Central Asia and discover the wonders of Uzbekistan. We invite you to step back in time in two of the Silk Road’s most fascinating “Stans”: Uzbekistan, whose legendary city names alone evoke dreams, and Turkmenistan, a country shrouded in mystery and closed to tourism for many years.
2 travel options to Uzbekistan
For this May, we have two options for travel to Uzbekistan. The first will take you from the Aral Sea to the Kysyl Kum Desert, as well as visiting the cities of Khiva and Bukhara, known for their medieval walls and mosques.
The second option is a unique combination of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. In addition to Uzbekistan, with its impressive cities as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, we will have the opportunity to explore enigmatic Turkmenistan, a country long closed to tourism.

Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is a place that evokes magical images just by mentioning its historic cities. Its impressive Islamic architecture stands out among its many wonders, and its crucial role on the Silk Road has forged a rich and fascinating history.
Unmissable cities
- Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva
These walled cities are architectural treasures. Their mosques, madrasas and bazaars are beautiful and reveal ancient civilisations and their importance to trade. Walking their streets takes you back to a golden age of commerce and activity.

Culture and Traditions
Uzbekistan’s crafts, dance and music hold a special place in its vibrant culture. Lazgi, with energetic, meaningful movements, is one example of this rich heritage. Its cuisine is another essential experience, while beautiful ceramics and carpets reflect centuries-old craft traditions.
Turkmenistan
Located at the crossroads between Central Asia and the Middle East, Turkmenistan is a country that arouses both curiosity and fascination. Much of its fame is due to the vast Karakum desert, which houses one of the world's largest natural gas reserves. This resource has been fundamental to the country's economy and has influenced many aspects of its society.
A unique regime
Turkmenistan is also known for its unique political system. The figure of its eccentric president, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, is at the center of everything, with a cult of personality reflected in numerous aspects of everyday life. This peculiarity adds an extra layer of intrigue, making visitors feel that they have entered a different and unique world.

The splendour of Ashgabat
Ashgabat, the capital, is a spectacle of opulent architecture and golden monuments symbolising the country's wealth and power. White marble buildings and golden statues create a distinctive cityscape.
Tourism on the rise
Natural gas remains Turkmenistan’s economic foundation, but tourism is growing. Travellers are drawn to Silk Road heritage, from Merv’s ancient, well-preserved ruins to modern Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan offers a fascinating mix of the ancient and the contemporary.
