Easter in Guatemala | An explosion of colour and religious fervour

Few experiences compare with visiting Guatemala at Easter. Pilgrimages and offerings amaze visitors with their colour and religious fervour. Our itinerary coincides with several of these celebrations, adding the extra dimension we always seek on our travels.

If you can extend Easter for a few days, consider this trip. You won't regret it.

Highlights of the Journey

Forest of Petén

Imagine walking through the majestic Mayan ruins of Tikal, a place where history and nature are magically intertwined. You will find yourself surrounded by temples and pyramids, to the sound of toucans and howler monkeys. The local flora and fauna are a spectacle, creating a truly unique and unforgettable experience.

Throughout the trip, you can discover picturesque indigenous peoples such as Panajachel, San Juan La Laguna and Santiago Atitlán. We will immerse ourselves in the rich culture and traditions of local communities, enjoying tranquility and natural beauty.

Copán, Honduras

We cross the border to explore Copán’s archaeology. Intricately carved stelae and sculptures tell of its ancient rulers, from the Great Plaza to the ball court. Every corner reveals a story, immersing us in Maya civilisation.

Río Dulce and the Caribbean

We sail Río Dulce’s clear waters between Lake Izabal and the Caribbean, visit Livingston for its Caribbean atmosphere and Garifuna culture, then relax, swim and enjoy Guatemala’s Caribbean beaches.

Easter in Antigua

At Easter, Antigua becomes a centre of processions and celebrations. Taking part is a unique experience: the streets fill with flower and sawdust carpets depicting quetzals, flowers and crosses.

The scent of sawdust, corozo (an Easter flower) and incense fills the air, immersing you in Guatemala’s sacred and cultural traditions. Roman soldiers in gold and red uniforms lead processions through the streets, followed by purple-robed cucuruchos taking turns to carry religious images.
