Mozambique from top to bottom crossing natural parks

Crossing an unfamiliar country from top to bottom is a dream for any curious traveller: from one end to the other, from beginning to end, leaving nothing out. That is the idea behind our trip to Mozambique, a route offering an almost complete picture of the former Portuguese colony, although it is never truly possible to see an entire country.

Our proposed itinerary takes us through natural parks with magnificent scenery and abundant wildlife. Africa in all its splendour. Although we will start in the south, in the capital, vibrant Maputo, we will travel across the country, always heading north.

Safari in Gorongosa National Park

One of the pearls of our journey is the days we will dedicate to Gorongosa National Park, one of Africa’s most interesting parks, partly because of its tragic past. Mozambique’s war from 1977 to 1992 devastated wildlife through indiscriminate hunting and left facilities neglected. Today, the positive side is a natural area whose animals are unaccustomed to convoys of SUVs and crowds of tourists. In this sense, Gorongosa National Park retains a rare sense of untouched Africa.

Since the return of long-awaited peace, programmes have been launched to reintroduce native species, and resources have been devoted to conserving and protecting more than 4,000 square kilometres. With luck, we can therefore observe on our safari, lions, leopards, zebras, crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, antelopes and elephant herds, alongside countless birds, insects and other creatures. Visitors return with photographic treasures on their memory cards.
