7 spectacular snapshots of Iceland

Talk about Iceland is to speak of a destination where the forces of nature are overwhelming. Magma erupts violently from volcanoes, winds strengthen without warning, ice builds up layer upon layer, tectonic plates shift, waterfalls plunge with abandon and the earth takes on every imaginable colour. Together, these forces have shaped a landscape that draws in and mesmerises the unsuspecting traveller.

The best way to get a feel for the country is through direct, almost intimate contact with the land, through walking along trails and routes away from the cities, in harmony with the environment and living things that have made the place their habitat.

Breiðamerkurjökull

The moment my vision came true – I saw this photo in my mind the very first moment I was exploring that huge and long lived, but ever-changing ice cave called Crystal Cave in Breiđamerkurjökull, a tongue glacier of Vatnajökull in Iceland. Then the right night came: clear skies, the Moon was up giving light, G1-class Solar Storm about to hit earth and the «road» leading to the cave along the flood plains of Vatnajökull was really luckily (barely) drivable almost all the way to the cave with a normal USV – so this was The Night! And of course I was feeling fluey! But that wasn’t going to stop me, oh no! And so I dared that crazy «road» (really sick driving!) and then the last bit I fought my way against the almost-hurricane-force winds blowing from the glacier and eventually got my shot! It was a magical moment – I was shouting by myself in the cave – a dream came true! So this one is bit like a repost since it’s actually a combination of two photos taken on the same location, one after another and the other I posted as one of my first photos @Instagram, though that was a screen shot with crappy processing and rather poor quality, so that’s also why a «repost». There was only one frame where the aurora painted that beautiful green on the ice, and I wanted to attach myself there from another frame. Dream big and just make it happen! Wishing you an awesome weekend everybody❣PHOTO INFO: Taken on 1/3/2015 with Nikon D600 with Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 at 24mm f/4 | 30 sec | ISO 1600 | #iceland #icecaves #auroraborealis #northernlights #awesomeearth #wonderful_places #wonderland #night_shooterz #nightimages #mystopover #ig_iceland #everydayiceland #fantastic_earth #icelandtravel #ig_naturelovers #amazingglobepix #planetwanderlust #travelawesome #livetravelchannel #travelphotography #outdooradventurephotos #adventureculture #aroundtheworldpix #TravelingOurPlanet #destinationearth #awesomepix #longexpoelite #longexposure_shots #superhubs_jamal #watchthisinstagood @kathryn_dyer @andyto @georgiakatee
