Some sayings and proverbs are wrong. Dust you are, and to dust you shall return. Wrong. We are water. Water is more abundant in our bodies than any other substance. And we need it. Water is life. Seas dominate the Earth’s surface, and life thrives along their shores. Then there are lakes and rivers, often the cradles of civilisations, or humanity’s first “highways”, connecting distant civilisations.
Travel across rivers, lakes and seas
In your next holidays We suggest a series of trips in which water is both our means of travel and the star attraction. By canoe, by kayak or sailing. In the south, close to the North Pole, on rivers or out at sea…
Let's look at some trips where water is the main element.
The Lost Kingdoms of Senegal by canoe

Touring the Senegal River in our canoe is a perfect way to discover the country at a relaxed pace, travelling slowly and stopping at places rarely visited by tourists. The canoe lets us reach communities that see few foreign visitors and enjoy their warmth and hospitality. Visits to the colonial city of Saint-Louis and evocative Gorée Island, off Dakar, complete this unusual African journey.
Kayaking among icebergs and glacier fronts

Greenland is one of our planet’s last frontiers. A virtually untouched area whose interior still appears blank on most maps. In the south of the island, the coast breaks into fjords and islets, creating magnificent landscapes that open to visitors during the short polar summer. This is a self-supported 160 km expedition with no support boat. We will paddle among icebergs in the company of seals, caribou and whales, spend time with Inuit communities, and admire great glacier fronts and the mysterious inlandis.
On board the sailboat Noorderlicht
The archipelago of Svalbard is the furthest north in Europe that a non-professional expedition can reach. Fjords, glaciers and abundant wildlife – polar bears, walruses, seals… – await visitors during the brief polar summer.
Aboard Noorderlicht, a magnificent classic two-masted schooner equipped for polar sailing, we can join expeditions that explore the north-west coast or circumnavigate the island between June and August.
Kayaking through the fjords of Oman

The peninsula of Musandam, in the Strait of Hormuz, hides extraordinary places in a landscape shaped by mountains and the fjords they form as they meet the sea. Who knew there were fjords in this part of the world? On this trip, we spend 5 days kayaking through coves and bays of clear water, often greeted by dolphins. It is an active route, combining days on the water with exploratory walks in the surrounding mountains.
Expedition in the Amazon rainforest along the Rio Negro

An ambitious boat journey up the Río Negro, heading towards some of the most fascinating natural areas of the Amazonia, venturing into the largest tropical rainforest on the planet. Our guide is Ángel Cánovas, a biologist and photojournalist specialising in fish, aquatic wildlife and rainforest vegetation. This combination takes us away from the most visited places to deepen our knowledge of Amazonian flora, fauna and local people.
Kayaking in the Norwegian fjords

Located 190 kilometres from the Arctic Circle, Efjord offers sheltered, crystal-clear waters, ideal for sea kayak route. The tour offers easy excursions and routes lasting no more than three hours. Experience Norway’s nature in all its summer splendour.
Sailing by gulet along the Lycian coast

Sailing through the southern Mediterranean coast, known as the Lycian coast, enjoying peaceful bays, swimming in crystal-clear waters and taking excursions ashore.
The boats, handcrafted from wood, are called gulets. The trip can be combined with a stay in Istanbul and a walking extension through Cappadocia’s labyrinthine landscapes.
