The sophisticated M/V Plancius anchors in a sheltered bay and becomes a base camp for activities that go beyond the usual Antarctic excursions: mountaineering (easy climbing), camping on the continent, long walks, kayaking and diving beneath the ice.
ACCOMMODATION IN ANTARCTICA
One night on the mainland. We go ashore after dinner with a sleeping mat, a polar sleeping bag and bivouac equipment. Food and fuel for heating are not permitted on the Antarctic continent; shared supplies consist of tents, drinks and emergency rations. The adventure ends at breakfast. Spending the night in the continent’s vast solitude is a nature experience that is hard to match.
HIKING/SNOWSHOEING
A basic point: there are no roads in Antarctica, and soft snow makes even the simplest walk more difficult. There are full-day excursions involving five or six hours of walking, as well as shorter, easier outings.

ICE DIVING
A truly unique experience for experienced divers. Diving in polar waters is no more dangerous than elsewhere, provided you follow the basic rule: safety comes first.
MOUNTAINEERING
Physically demanding, this activity is aimed at mountaineers who want to head inland and gain altitude for great views. Long guided walks break trail through the snow over gentle slopes.
SEA KAYAKING
Paddle among floating ice with no sound but your paddle strokes. Close encounters with wildlife are highly likely. Previous experience is advisable: kayaking in icy water carries a degree of risk.
