We propose a trip to Iceland during the New Year festivities, when Reykjavík is full of charm. Accompanied by an expert and staying in ideal locations for night-sky viewing, we travel through southern Iceland to the glacial lagoon of Jökulsárlón. The trip combines daytime excursions and activities with northern lights viewing at night, plus a glacier walk and a visit to the Blue Lagoon.

NORTHERN LIGHTS IN ICELAND

Each day, the guide will explain our chances of seeing auroras, based on solar activity and local cloud cover. We will organise our “aurora hunt” according to the conditions.

What are auroras?
The polar aurora is a glow or luminescence visible in the night sky at high latitudes, in the Arctic and Antarctic. In the northern hemisphere, it is known as the aurora borealis, or more popularly, the Northern Lights.

Where can you see the northern lights?
In circles around magnetic poles called auroral ovals. In the northern hemisphere this area extends through Canada, Greenland, Iceland, northern Scandinavia and Siberia.
