BICI-TUAREG versus Hurricane Isaac

Isidro, the travel guide «Cuba by bicycle”, which departed on 18 August, wrote to us two days ago.
This was the first news of the eleven brave men who found themselves pedaling against the Hurricane Isaac.

Hello everyone!

At last I can sit down at an internet café and take my time writing!

We have just arrived in Trinidad after cycling 35 km from Yaguanabo into a headwind, which the group took as another part of the adventure. This really is a fantastic group. The rapport between the Cubans and Spaniards is incredible. The guide, mechanic and driver are delighted and keep asking when we will bring more Spaniards!

The group is discovering a new way of travelling, and they tell me they had not expected such close contact with people or such interesting places to discover in Cuba. I’ll just say that we stop wherever we like to swim in rivers with no tourists, eat bananas and pineapples bought at the roadside, share meals with guajiros in isolated houses by the road, and enjoy free Cuba libres prepared by the mechanic on the bus during transfers.

Tropical Storm Isaac has largely spared us, although last night we thought our bungalow might blow away. Winds of 100 km per hour and relentless rain. I was a little worried about the group, but the Cuban guide has handled everything very well, briefing them on safety during cyclones and storms.
We stayed inside the bungalow and were safe throughout.

The good news is that it has already passed and now the cyclone is going to USA.
We are covering the planned kilometres for each stage, and everything is going well. Everyone is happy, especially me!

Well, I will leave you now, as we are all going to eat together.

Cheers!
