Discovering Cuba by Bike

A 15-day trip to the west and centre of Cuba, at the pace a bicycle allows. No rush, Cuban style!

Discovering Cuba by Bike

The whole 19/08 group at the Hotel Nacional de la Habana

Why ride a bike? Some places have so little motor traffic that cycling is an ideal way to explore them. It also brings us into direct contact with local people: we can stop wherever we like for a conversation.

Nuria exploring Las Terrazas

We cycle through Viñales National Park, one of Cuba’s most spectacular natural landscapes, with tall pines, tobacco plantations and its famous mogotes, or limestone hills. The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

A new way of travelling. We travel by bike with just one pannier for our belongings. A support bus carries our suitcases, extra water and the bikes when we don't feel like pedalling. A guide who is also a mechanic accompanies us.

On the road to Viñales

Tasty Cuban food: Along the route, we can stop for meals in private homes, where hosts cook delicious local food such as cassava, beans, chicken, lobster and all kinds of fruit. This supports each community’s local economy.

We rode through Havana: We walked through Havana to end our tour in the capital’s Plaza de la Revolución, watched over by Che’s silhouette. Can you think of anything better?
