Travel to Jordan - Wadi Rum, first day of 2018 Gemma Sala

Trekking in Wadi Rum | Hiking in Jordan

A perfect trip to Jordan, combining history and nature without compromising on either.

This itinerary is specially designed to discover Jordan’s most important sights: Petra, the Dead Sea and Wadi Rum, with gentle trekking through its most beautiful natural landscapes: the Dana Biosphere Reserve, Wadi Rum and Wadi Mujib, all near the Dead Sea.

Hiking in Wadi Rum

Walking in Wadi Rum takes around 5–6 hours including stops on the first day and 4 hours on the next, with almost no elevation change. The challenge is the climate: very hot in summer and cold in winter. Walks are scheduled around the temperatures for the season.
The planned walk in Dana Reserve takes around 4 hours, descending steadily along a clear path.
In Wadi Mujib, a 2–3-hour excursion follows the river’s gorges. Water levels vary by season, but our feet always get wet.

Highlights of the Wadi Rum trekking

  • Petra
A crevice that opens in the mountain gives access to the city of Petra; a must-see spot on a trip to Jordan.
  • Wadi Rum
Spectacular canyons and impressive rock formations in the heart of the desert.
  • Trekking days
Easy walks through three of Jordan's most beautiful natural settings: Dana, Wadi Rum and Wadi Mujib.

Recommended climate and equipment

When travelling to Jordan, consider the season so you can bring suitable equipment for walks and the night camping.

No special footwear is required for hiking.

In summer, the sun is strong and temperatures can be very high, especially around midday. Nights are pleasant, with no special warm clothing needed. In winter, however, nights can be very cold, particularly in the desert.
