Highlights of the Journey
Tbilisi
The capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, is a city with standards similar to those of the large European cities, so the usual precautions are recommended.
Rock town of Uplistikhe
Uplistsikhe, meaning “Fortress of the Lord”, is a maze of caves and underground passages about 10 km east of Gori in central Georgia. Its history stretches back thousands of years, with archaeological evidence of Bronze Age habitation. It is one of Georgia’s oldest urban settlements, spanning the pre-Christian period to the medieval era.
Uplistsikhe has three levels: upper, middle and lower, each revealing a different aspect of the ancient city’s life and complex social organisation. Rock-cut stairs and tunnels connected the city, allowing people and resources to move between levels. The middle section is the largest, with a core of rock-cut buildings.

Kakheti region
Georgia’s fertile eastern region takes us back in time, contrasting traditional and modern winemaking. At wineries, we taste wine made in clay jars using an ancient method recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Caves of Vardzia
One of Georgia's most impressive historical monuments, located at an altitude of 1,300 metres. This complex of caves excavated by hand more than 800 years ago came to house more than 50,000 people.

Lake Sevan
A dreamlike retreat among the Lesser Caucasus mountains: Armenia’s largest alpine lake, at 1,900 metres, with spectacular panoramic views from Sevanavank Monastery.
World Heritage monasteries
We will visit several monasteries declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, including:
- Geghard Monastery, partly carved into rock
- Tatev Monastery, accessible by the longest cable car in the world
- Haghpat monastic complex
