Paradise (of snow) exists
A winter getaway combining Oslo with cosy Rondane River Lodge, between Dovrefjell and Rondane national parks. Three hours by train from the capital, it offers cabins and main-building rooms, with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and musk ox excursions nearby.
The hotel
Rondane River Lodge has ten comfortable rooms in the main building and ten wooden cabins with fully equipped kitchens. Benjamin leads the excursions, while his wife Karin prepares delicious homemade breakfasts and dinners. Their personal attention makes this family-run lodge a perfect place to relax after a day in the snow.

Lapland’s crowds, scarce snow in the Pyrenees and high Alpine prices make Rondane Lodge a perfect alternative for a quieter snow holiday, with a wide choice of activities in a distinctive, less crowded natural setting.
Where
The lodge is in Sollia, just 270 km north of Oslo, beside majestic Rondane National Park. One of Norway’s sunniest and driest regions, it offers plentiful, good-quality snow from December to April. Spectacular landscapes and excellent winter sports conditions make it an exceptional destination.
Activities
Rondane National Park’s vast snowfields suit both beginners and experienced Nordic skiers. Nearby activities include snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling and Alpine skiing. Searching for musk oxen is another unmissable experience.
Oslo, trains and flights
The trip includes flights to Oslo, transportation to Rondane, accommodation and excursions. Although you usually associate us with deserts and jungles, we also love these small family or couple pleasures in winter destinations. Enjoy a picturesque train ride from Oslo to the lodge, where an unforgettable experience in nature awaits you.
Something special: Musk Ox safari
The activity starts in Hjerkinn, an hour from Rondane Lodge, in Dovrefjell National Park. A guided snowshoe walk takes us above the treeline to look for musk ox herds. Snowshoes are provided by the lodge. Long walks in mountain terrain require good fitness.
Activities from Rondane River Lodge include ice fishing, sledding, dog sledding, hiking and ski crossings. Spectacular nature, few people, plenty of snow and a cold, dry climate surround us.
