Whales in Baja California and monarch butterflies in Valle de Bravo
Sometimes we're lucky. In February two extraordinary natural phenomena coincide: millions of butterflies come to the forests of the state of Mexico (Edomex, not to be confused with Mexico City), hundreds of grey whales come to the waters of Baja California to give birth and nurse their young.

Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary
Over 300 million monarch butterflies make an epic journey from Canada to Michoacán’s forests, spending winter among oyamel firs and covering the trees like living leaves.
One of the most amazing phenomena on the planet: the migration of monarch butterflies.
Our journey starts in colonial Morelia, inviting leisurely exploration. We then enter the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, among mountains covered with oyamel firs and pines. The gentle walk to the sanctuary builds anticipation at every step. When will they appear?
Then it happens. Thousands of butterflies flutter around us, cover tree trunks, settle on our backpacks and dance in the light. The forest’s silence is broken only by the gentle wingbeats of these tireless travellers, who have covered more than 4,000 kilometres from Canada. It is impossible not to be moved.

The aquarium of the world in Baja California
In Baja California, the sea will welcome us with open arms. Another unforgettable moment awaits us there: the arrival of the grey and humpback whales. We will sail through Magdalena Bay and the waters of Los Cabos, attentive to every movement, to every blow that breaks the silence. We will see how these giants emerge from the ocean, some jumping hard, others approaching their young, as if they wanted to share their story with us.
We will be there, in the front row, witnesses of a dance that repeats every year and never ceases to thrill.

There is more: playful sea lions chase one another through the waves, and whale sharks, gentle giants that inspire respect rather than fear. We have the chance to swim near them, feel their calm presence and discover secrets the sea reveals only to those who approach with humility.

Mexico on the move
Between wildlife encounters, we experience Mexico through every sense: fresh ceviche, coffee shared in a local kitchen, characterful villages, untold stories and welcoming accommodation. Colours, scents and smiles make this a journey of culture, emotion and life as well as nature.
