In this edition of the Viajes Tuareg Photography Competition, we have had 175 participants with almost 850 images. We have reviewed them all carefully and we have the result.
After several rounds of voting, we chose the 22 finalists and took them to our specialist Luis Davilla to choose the winners and we are in a position to reveal to you the outcome of the deliberation.
First prize in the Viatges Tuareg Photography Competition
The first prize is awarded to Bea Garcia for a photo Ethiopia under the title “Salt Caravan”. Bea wins €1,000 as a prize. Congratulations!
Luis Davilla explains his assessment of the photograph:
The original, deliberate use of a low camera angle, reinforced by the diagonal line of camels, emphasises the animals’ importance even above that of humans. The dominant sky, backlit figures and faded colours convey the harshness of the arid lands of the Ethiopian Sahel.
I think this carefully composed, unconventional image effectively conveys both the sense of weightlessness and the harsh climate of these legendary salt caravans.
Second prize of the Photo Contest Viatges Tuareg
Secondly we highlight the image submitted by Ainara Alonso, taken in Guatemala with the title “Colours”. Ainara receives EUR 500 as a prize. Many congratulations»!
Luis Davilla explains his assessment of the photograph:
For the original overhead view of the typical markets of Guatemala and the contrasting colours so characteristic of these settings. Perfect chiaroscuro draws our gaze to a calm, central composition, revealing a variety of fruit and vegetables and the richness of indigenous textiles.
