It sounds like the start of a joke, but it is absolutely true. I'm Victor. Less than two months ago, I started working at Tuareg, and I never imagined that five weeks later I would be reporting on an event as amazing as the 26th Marathon des Sables.
As an adventure sports enthusiast, I had followed previous MDS editions from afar, like a novice gymnast watching the Olympics: an impossible event for people with an even more extraordinary level of fitness. Then, when you least expect it, a new colleague comes up and says: “Hi, I’m Pere. I need you to update these maps NOW, because in a couple of weeks I’m going to run the Marathon des Sables”.
I thought he was joking, but then parcels began arriving in his name containing survival blankets, venom extractors and other Rambo toys, and I realised he was serious.
And that is how I find myself now: the Viatges Tuareg novice closely following the novice in the 26th MDS, transcribing his daily words and experiences, with a mobile in each pocket to remain reachable – you never know when Pere will call. And losing sleep through sheer envy!
