Best destinations for travel in February 2027

February is one of those months in which choosing the destination can completely transform the journey.

While winter blankets northern Europe in snow, Patagonia is in the height of the southern summer. In Tanzania, the great herds gather between Ndutu and the Serengeti; in Mexico, monarch butterflies coincide with whale season; and Japan offers a quieter side with fewer tourists.

Featured destinations for travel in February 2027

Several February trips are particularly rewarding at this time of year. Some follow seasonal natural phenomena; others take advantage of the northern winter or southern summer to show each destination at its best.

Mexico: monarch butterflies and whales on the same trip

Few trips combine two major natural phenomena in just two weeks.

Every winter, millions of monarch butterflies arrive from North America to the Michoacán forests. The journey takes us to their sanctuaries to observe one of the most surprising migrations of the animal world.

Then we change landscapes completely and travel to Baja California, where these dates coincide with whale sightings and abundant marine wildlife.

From millions of butterflies in mountain forests to the great cetaceans of the so-called aquarium of the world.

Tanzania in February: the Great Migration in Ndutu and Serengeti

February is one of the most special moments of the Great Migration.

Large concentrations of wildebeest and zebras are usually found between the Ndutu plains and the central-southern Serengeti. Many wildebeest calves are born now, creating intense activity around the herds and attracting large predators.

The itinerary is designed precisely around this phenomenon, reducing unnecessary travel to devote more time to wildlife observation.

We travel to Tanzania in search of one of the great wildlife spectacles.

✔️ Departure 13 FEB 2027
✔️ Safari and wildlife
✔️ Price from 3990€ + fees

Finland: cross winter Lapland on snowshoes

For something more active than a northern lights getaway, we suggest a eight-day journey through Lemmenjokki National Park.

We travel through the boreal forest on snowshoes, pulling pulkas, following wildlife tracks and sleeping in Arctic wilderness. The ascent of Jonkielinen and the daily crossings make this considerably more demanding than our short Lake Inari trip.

In February we also have five-day departures from Hiking and the Northern Lights at Lake Inari, designed as a first immersion in Lapland without undertaking a crossing.

Lake Inari for an introduction to winter in Lapland; Lemmenjoki to immerse yourself in it.

✔️ 8-day trip
✔️ Departures 13 and 27 FEB 2027
✔️ Snowshoe trekking
✔️ Price from 1895€ + fees

Patagonia in February: trekking in the middle of southern summer

When in Europe we are in winter, in Patagonia it is summer. It is time to go out for a walk through some of the most impressive landscapes of Argentina and Chile.

The route combines the trails of the Los Glaciares National Park, with Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre as protagonists, with the walks of Torres del Paine in Chile.

The trip also includes places worth crossing the Atlantic for in their own right: Perito Moreno Glacier and Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego.

For travellers accustomed to walking. There are no major technical difficulties, but some days are long and require good fitness.

✔️ 15-day trip
✔️ Departures 13 and 27 FEB 2027
✔️ Moderate/advanced trekking
✔️ Price from 4495€ + flight

Japan in February: travel to understand the country

Winter in Japan offers a different experience from the busiest months. In February, you can explore many famous places more peacefully and enjoy winter landscapes in which Mount Fuji takes centre stage.

The 18 February departure is accompanied by Asaki-san, our Spanish-speaking Japanese guide, and visits Osaka, Koyasan, Kyoto, Ine, the Fuji region, Kamakura, Tokyo and Nikko.

The aim is more than a succession of visits. This trip brings us closer to Japanese life and culture through temples, neighbourhoods, food, gardens, hot springs and everyday details that are difficult to interpret without a local perspective.

A trip to visit Japan, but especially to begin to understand it.

The route ends in the Victoria Falls, after combining mokoro trips, boats, walks and 4×4 safaris.
