We began our professional journey organising desert trips and, 40 years later, we still consider the desert one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
For winter 2026, we suggest four ways to discover Algeria. Two focus on the Tadrart region and its labyrinths of rock and sand. A third explores the Sahara through the Grand Erg Occidental, while the fourth offers a more conventional journey through northern Algeria’s historic cities and monuments.

Travelling to the Sahara
The Sahara does not follow the familiar logic of urban life. Travellers seek it as a pause from routine, stress or modern life, without comparisons or comforts, longing instead for simplicity and complete disconnection.

These itineraries immerse travellers in the vast desert. The Sahara captivates through imposing landscapes and serenity, while offering space to reconnect with essentials, reflect and often discover a new sense of freedom.
In the desert, time has another rhythm, and nature in its purest state challenges and rewards the traveler to the same extent. It is an experience that is recorded in memory and in the heart.
The desert in Algeria
Almost 80 per cent of Algeria is covered by the Sahara, home to some of North Africa’s most dazzling landscapes. Sand and rock around the Hoggar massif create an incomparable sight. At Djanet Oasis, inhabited by the Kel Ajjer Tuareg community, we discover fascinating local customs.
As for security, the region we explore, between Djanet and Tadrart, is possibly the most picturesque and meets established safety standards.

The Tadrart. Stone and sand labyrinths
Tadrart shows how landscapes are constantly being shaped.
Wind gradually gathers sand at the base of rock formations, shaping extraordinary scenery. Red dunes and imposing canyons emerge, with fanciful stone shapes and springs of clear water.

A colossal fissure crosses the Tassili N’Ajjer plateau, allowing Saharan sand into Tadrart. Impressive stone arches and austere plateaus emerge from extraordinary gorges.
The Great Western Erg and the Saoura Route
The Great Western Erg is a seemingly endless sea of dunes. Along the Saoura route, scenery changes constantly: long golden sand ridges, stony hamadas and oases appearing unexpectedly amid the vastness.

A journey where the silence of the desert and the light of the Sahara become the real protagonists.
The route crosses some of southern Algeria's most evocative landscapes, following old caravan paths among palm groves, traditional ksour and wind-shaped dunes. Discover the authentic Sahara, away from the usual routes.
Mediterranean and Roman Algeria
Roman ruins rise among pines, cliffs and hills overlooking the sea, creating timeless landscapes. Tipasa and Cherchell preserve theatres, temples and mosaics evoking ancient Rome’s splendour.
Inland, Timgad’s almost perfect street plan reveals Roman daily life. Later, Khemissa and Madaure appear among mountains and olive groves, quiet traces of a civilisation that shaped the Mediterranean.

The route culminates in Constantine above the Rhumel gorges, where bridges link neighbourhoods across the void, and Djemila, among the Mediterranean’s best-preserved Roman complexes. Algiers’ Kasbah, with narrow streets, courtyards and centuries-old houses, recalls centuries of exchange between East and West.
