“The desert is too vast to accommodate lies.”
This is how Brahim, our 63-year-old Tuareg guide, explained why things are different in the desert. Brahim was the human GPS who guided our expedition to Libya for a front-row view of the solar eclipse in 2006.
Our long history of Saharan travel began in the early 1980s, when we opened the agency. Those first 4×4 routes through Algeria and Morocco gradually expanded. Mauritania, Tunisia, Niger, Egypt and years after the Chad, Sudan and Libya completed our range of trips to the Sahara Desert.
Travelling to the desert means escaping everything, even the comforts we are used to on holiday.
10 REASONS WE LOVE THE SAHARA
1.- Amazing sunsets
For photography lovers, capturing sunrise and sunset becomes a goal of the trip, especially in winter, when light is reflected more intensely.

2.- Hidden Treasures
The Sahara hides its ancient treasures under a mantle of dunes that move with the wind.

3.- Landscapes of infinite dunes
The feeling of being surrounded by dunes in all directions causes an inner peace difficult to describe.

4.- Nights around the campfire
Discovering Tuareg culture, sitting on the sand by the light of a campfire beneath an endless star-filled sky.

5.- Natural rock sculptures
Our routes reach exceptional but hard-to-access places, so we must be prepared for desert travel by 4×4.

6.- Stars at night
Sleep in the desert and admire an incomparable display of stars. Look carefully and you may see the International Space Station pass overhead.

7.- Its people
From the nomadic tribes of Mauritania to the Tuaregs in the Hoggar. Despite being one of the least populous territories on the planet, many ethnic groups live together in the Sahara.

8.- Markets
Where haggling is part of daily life, a visit to the markets where local people shop becomes an experience in itself: colours, smells and the cries of people and animals amid a bustle of makeshift stalls.

9.- The Tuaregs
Proud of their heritage, the Tuareg preserve their culture, way of life and language, Tamasheq. Although 4×4 vehicles have replaced camels for transport, camels remain a sign of wealth for Tuareg families.

10.- Rock art
The paintings and engravings on Tassili N’Ajjer’s rocks and walls form the world’s largest collection of open-air Neolithic art.
