Nature walks in eastern China

China is already on our list of destinations with the Trans-Mongolian, the Trans-Siberian, Yunnan or the Easy China and now, after a brief but intense trip to eastern China, we are back with a new highlight for this September: nature walks in eastern China. Alongside cosmopolitan cities in the east, this route takes in central China’s most spectacular sites: The pinnacles of Yangshuo and the Li River; the stone forest of Zhangjiajie and the Great Wall at Jinshanling. Masterpieces of nature await us on varied, accessible walks that take us away from the local crowds. To help us understand this country’s complex society, the trip will be led by a Spanish guide who has lived in China for many years.

Travelling through the United States via its national parks

Travelling through the United States There are national parks with names as legendary as Yellowstone, with the image of its ‘Old Faithful’ geyser; or Yosemite with Glacier Point, waterfalls over 100 m high and the impressive sequoia forest. Or the majestic Grand Canyon of the Colorado River, whose immensity puts us humans in perspective on planet Earth. A photography trip to Denali National Park, Alaska brings us close to pristine ecosystems as our ancestors knew them.

But we must not forget the many other national and natural parks dotted across the country, which are just as spectacular, if not more so, such as: Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley in Utah, Great Smoky Mountains , are just a few examples that we will find travelling in the United States.

Ol Doinyo Lengai, the grey volcano of Tanzania

In a remote corner north of Tanzania rises an amazing mountain called Ol Doinyo Lengai, where the lava fountains harden in the air and then fragment like glass.

In the language Maasai means Mountain of God and is close to the Lake Natron and is part of the volcanic system of Great Rift Valley. The volcano lies in a section of the fault zone known as Sikes Grid. It is one of the most unusual volcanoes, being the only one to erupt natrocarbonatite lava. Unlike other lavas, these are rich in calcium, sodium and carbon dioxide, giving these eruptions some extraordinary properties.

Issyk Kul: the second largest mountain lake in the world

The Lake Issyk-Köl (Ysyk-Köl, Issyk-Kul) is the second largest alpine lake in the world after the Lake Titicaca in South America. The name, which means “hot lake”, is something of an exaggeration. A combination of great depth, thermal activity and mild salinity ensures that the lake never freezes, even in the harsh winters of Central Asia, despite being at an altitude of more than 1600 m.

The lake's origins are unknown, but the existence of a city built in the 5th century BC, submerged by flooding caused by an earthquake in the 16th century, has been demonstrated. Underwater expeditions over the years have found coins from that period.

Inti Raymi, the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere

The Word «Solstice’ comes from the Latin solstitium, meaning sun and statum, or stationary sun. It occurs at a time of year when the sun is over one of the tropics, making the day or night the longest of the year.

It usually occurs around 21 June. For those in the northern hemisphere, it is the summer solstice, bringing the longest day and shortest night. In the southern hemisphere, it is the winter solstice and means the opposite: the shortest day and longest night. Both have one thing in common: the rituals, celebrations and traditions centred on the sun as a symbol of rebirth and hope.
