Slovenia vs. Slovakia Which is the best country to travel to?

Slovenia is a small country with an enviable geographical position between the majestic Alps and the Mediterranean. Known as miniature Europe, Slovenia has spectacular mountains, lush forests and a small coastline.

For its part, Slovakia has a history closely tied to the fortunes of Central Europe’s kingdoms. The natural parks of the Carpathians are home to some of Europe’s most iconic wildlife: deer, lynx, bears and wolves. Bear in mind that there may be snow in the mountains in spring, and the weather can change quickly, even within a single day.

Greenland prepares to receive visitors

What is the best time to travel to Greenland?

Summer is certainly the best time to travel to Greenland

Greenland’s entire coastal strip, especially in the south, is free of ice and snow in summer, so our hikes pass through snow-free areas of willow and dwarf birch.

Making the most of the long summer daylight hours, it is possible to undertake treks varied, with elevation changes of 50 to 550 m and around 2 to 6 hours of actual walking, all in daylight. Most routes are cross-country, as there are no tracks or trails in Greenland, but walking poses no difficulty in summer.

Italy will open its borders from June

Italy's tourism industry can breathe again this week. Italy is stepping up efforts to restore the normality lost in early March, when it imposed a nationwide lockdown. This week, the Council of Ministers decided that regions whose data show the situation is under control may allow people to enter and leave from other European countries from 3 June. The decree stresses that travel from abroad will be limited only by measures imposed by other countries and “with compliance with restrictions arising from the regulation of the European Union and international obligations”.

As of June 3, the Italian government will reopen its borders to European Union travellers, cancelling the 14-day mandatory quarantine for foreign visitors.

China trip reviews – Trekking through eastern China

ARMAND N > September 2018 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
A varied trip packed with activities. A good balance between culture and nature.
The best of the trip:
An exceptional guide who showed great interest and complete dedication to the group, helping us enjoy the trip to the full. Among the visits, I would highlight Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the treks in Longsheng, the Guilin cruise and the bike ride to Moon Hill.

ALEJANDRO F M > September 2018 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Excellent. We felt comfortable from the start, and our tour leader made sure everything ran smoothly. The trip lived up to the expectations set, and sometimes exceeded them. Our guide played an important part in this too. We also enjoyed simple things, such as a bicycle ride. We would do it again.
The best of the trip:
The combination of different elements. Truly imposing cities with places such as the Imperial City and the hutongs. The way the trip was organised allowed us to walk along the Great Wall at a relaxed pace and enjoy it, just as we did in the Longji area. The natural sites we visited retained their power and some of their character, even within the “scenic area” format that drives tourism in China and makes them accessible to so many people. And our guide Guillem: without him, it would have been a different trip.

SUSANA L > September 2018 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I think those people who like to combine cultural visits with walks will love it. It is quite impressive the mix of the old and the new: places with hundreds of years of history next to the skyscrapers and the most modern technology.
The best of the trip:
The dedication and passion of our guide. Thanks to Guillem, we were able to do more activities than originally planned and gain an insight into Chinese culture. He also joined us for every meal not included in the trip, bringing us closer to daily life in the country. I think he made the difference between a ‘good’ trip and a ‘very good’ one. Apart from the human connections, I would highlight the visit to the Great Wall. It is spectacular and well worth the bus journey to escape the areas most visited by tourists. Walking along it with hardly anyone around is priceless. Another highlight was walking through the Longsheng rice terraces. Words cannot describe it. The landscape's changing geometry at every step makes it magical!

Last places for travel in October

As the saying goes, September is the month for the rich, but perhaps October is one of our favourite months for travel. As autumn begins, many of our destinations take on distinctive colours, displaying shades you will not see at other times of year.

For those lucky enough to travel in October, visitors even seem to receive better treatment, with fewer people queuing and fewer visitors at the main attractions.

With the arrival of autumn the trekking season in the Himalayas and northern Southeast Asia welcomes the end of the monsoons and the arrival of winter. In South America, it is an ideal time to travel, similar to our month of June, with few visitors and more affordable prices at the main tourist attractions.

Among all the corners of Krabi where you can go rock climbing, Railay stands out in particular.

This is a small peninsula that can only be accessed by boat. Here are huge limestone cliffs that challenge the most experienced climbers and tempt those keen to try it in the ROCK CLIMBING. There are more than 150 marked routes of different levels of difficulty. Hire of equipment, instructors and guides is available.

In addition to the abundant range of tours and visits offered by hotels and tourist offices, the local agency is also available to organise excursions, but it is worth having an idea of the possibilities offered by each place, especially if you want go rock climbing in Krabi.

Trekking in Thailand: what is ethnic minority trekking?

The Trekking among Thailand’s ethnic minorities It runs through the far northwest, on the Myanmar border, in one of the most unexplored areas of the country.

Trekking in Northern Thailand

Starting from Chiang Mai, during the trek we will walk through a mountainous region, with hills covered in dense tropical vegetation and a network of jungle trails connecting the villages of different ethnic groups (Karen, Lahu, Akha).

Photograph by Anna Genover Mas taken while trekking in Thailand
Photograph by Anna Genover Mas taken while trekking in Thailand

A combination of walks along trails connecting remote villages, bamboo raft journeys and elephant rides.

We offer a trek in Thailand with no fixed route; adapts to different times of the year. We walk on the first two days. On the third, the walk is followed by a stretch riding an elephant through the densest jungle, and on the fourth day we we travel downriver on bamboo rafts.

In our summer, during July and August, the rains transform the landscape. Everything is greener and the jungle denser, but roads and bridges may be closed, and rivers sometimes flood force them to cancel the rafting descent.

Where do you sleep on a trek in Thailand?

We head further afield in local huts where we eat and sleep during the trek have a space for travellers to stay, separate from the hut where the owners live.

They have raised floors and are usually made of bamboo and wood, with corrugated fibre-cement or palm roofs. The huts have a room with mattresses, pillows, blankets or duvets, and mosquito nets. Sheets are not provided, so we recommend bringing a sleeping bag liner.

What are the toilets like in the houses?

The toilets are in an outbuilding outside the main dwelling so a good torch or head torch is essential at night to find your way safely: the generator runs only until a certain time, after which there is no electricity.

What are the villages where we stay like?

The villages we come across along this trekking in Thailand are semi-permanent, built in a particular spot and remaining there for only a few years. Moving the village every several years is part of the culture and tradition of Thailand.

Life in the villages is very peaceful. Sometimes everyone belongs to the same family, making it ideal for getting to know local people if we plan to go family trekking in Thailand.

What are the guides who accompany us on the trek like?

The trekking guides are local people who have adapted to the arrival of tourism in their villages. They know the area well and take good care of visitors.

They are responsible for choosing the most suitable route depending on the condition of the trails, the weather and the presence or absence of other groups that may also have chosen to go Four-day trekking in northern Thailand.

What is eaten during the Northern Thailand trekking?

Full board is included during the trek. Drinks are paid for separately and can usually be purchased at the house where we stay.

An assistant cook prepares meals with help from the women of the villages where we stay overnight.

They are based on the local dishes with fewer spices and less chilli. Rice, noodles, vegetable soups. They are simple and well prepared dishes with fresh fruit.

What should I carry in my backpack?

Luggage is left at the hotel, and you take only what you need for 3 nights.

It's very important. Wear good trekking shoes, a rain poncho and a daypack to carry our belongings. Here is our suggested packing list:

  • Sandals with ankle straps,
  • bathing suit,
  • towel,
  • light clothing,
  • a jacket or fleece,
  • rain poncho,
  • head torch,
  • sleeping bag liner,
  • cap,
  • toiletry bag (including sunscreen),
  • a personal first aid kit (including insect repellent).

You will need to adapt your equipment to the time of year you travel.

In the rainy season it is hotter, so focus on lightweight clothing and waterproofs.

During the dry season, nights can be cool, so it is particularly important to bring warm clothing.

If you want to discover more interesting facts about Thailand, come and travel with us. We still have places available (check the date of this post, as there are only a few left) for the trekking in Thailand in July and August.
