psychological benefits-traveling

? The 6 psychological benefits of travel

Travel is one of life’s most widely shared pleasures. It feeds our curiosity and lets us switch off from our daily routine, discover other cultures, try different foods and share moments with our loved ones.

"Travels in youth are a form of education and, in old age, they are part of the experience", says philosopher and writer Francis Bacon

Travel offers us many psychological benefits:

1. Communication

When we encounter an unfamiliar place and a new culture, we must adapt how we communicate. A different culture often means a different way of thinking, understanding and expressing things. Usually, when we communicate across cultures, we are unconsciously much more assertive, since we initially assumed that our way of looking at things might not be the right one in that place. That is why approaching people from other cultures is tremendously enriching, as it allows us to develop new communication skills that we can then apply in our daily lives.

2. Relaxation

The impact of travel on our emotional state is immense. Travel lets us switch off from daily routines and set aside most of our usual responsibilities, because when planning a trip, we all give ourselves a “break” that we embrace without guilt. Stress and negative thoughts fade away, and our minds are free to enjoy the here and now, which usually translates into a constant flow of positive thoughts. The level of stress decreases and Increases our emotional well-being.

3. Comfort zone

The so-called “comfort zone” results from a combination of defence mechanisms that try to reduce our daily stress. As a result, we feel comfortable in our everyday lives; we already know what will happen. In everyday life we build a comfort zone where the brain feels at ease and follows familiar patterns. When we decide to travel, we automatically step outside this zone, and may initially feel some stress and anxiety. Over time, however, We will begin to enjoy, feel and experience things we had almost forgotten.. That comfort is broken, but we will soon feel much more capable of face new situations that give us a greater sense of capability and independence.

4. Increased self-esteem

Going to a place where no one knows us helps us build trust, because we develop ways to overcome obstacles and gain a sense of control and autonomy. Many people regain innate abilities they had lost, often related to interpersonal communication.

5. Open-mindedness

A narrow view of the world can make us think our way of seeing things is the only correct one. This lack of understanding often leads to fear and prejudice towards other ways of thinking. Travelling changes our surroundings: everything is unfamiliar, and we become much more open to listening and understanding. That is how we break old patterns and learn to engage with different cultures and become more tolerant.

6. Self-awareness

Leaving everyday thoughts behind creates mental space to recognise, listen to and value our needs. Self-knowledge is the fundamental journey of our lives, and travelling helps us discover our most authentic selves.

Travel helps you grow enormously as a person and discover your fears and what you are capable of in difficult situations. Stay curious: ask, observe, learn and immerse yourself in the unknown. Let travel change your life.

Any time of year is a good time to switch off. In Tuareg we have scheduled departures all year round. Would you like to travel?

Bali bans single-use plastics

On 23 June 2019, Bali officially became the first Indonesian province to ban all single-use plastic bags, straws and polystyrene. Confirmation of the island-wide ban came less than a year after a trial was introduced in Denpasar. It is hoped that the legislation will make progress in tackling the growing problem of plastics in Bali and also serve as a model for other provinces of the country to follow.

Women farming on the slopes of Mount Merapi | Anna Boye

How can it affect me? trip to Indonesia?

The ban was first announced on 1 January this year, when the mayor of Denpasar announced that all supermarkets, convenience stores and shopping malls Denpasar had banned single-use plastics. Just over six months later, this legislation has been extended to the whole of Bali. The scope of the ban has also been expanded to include all, from retailers to traditional markets in cities, towns and villages.

For now, the entry of plastics to the island is not prohibited, and checks at its borders are not expected, as we saw in the case of the single-use plastic ban in Tanzania. Anyway, from Responsible Tuareg, we strongly urge travellers to avoid bringing these types of plastic into the country unless absolutely essential.

Part of a broader plan

The prohibition is part of the a broader plan. Indonesia aims to reduce ocean plastics by 70% by 2025 through a combination of legislation, individual action and private-sector support. Environmental campaigners, tourists and government officials welcomed the latest news, and applauded Bali’s firm stance against plastic pollution.

The role of tourism

Bali generates approximately 1.6 million tonnes of waste each year, including 303,000 tonnes of plastic. About 33,000 tonnes of it leak into the island’s waterways and end up in the ocean. The tourism is the biggest culprit for plastic accumulation in Bali; visitors to the island have been found to generate more than three times as much waste as Bali’s permanent residents.

It is therefore essential for travellers to bear in mind that, although our stay is for a limited time, how we behave when visiting the country is crucial for the success of the project.

As Bali begins to turn the tide on plastic, It's vital that all visitors do their part. Now that tourists, locals, traders, governors, agents and international organizations are becoming aware of the problem, legislation like this is expected help preserve the beauty of Bali for the enjoyment of all.

Tuareg Responsible Stop Plastic

#StopPlastic campaign. Responsible Tuareg

In Viajes Tuareg we love the initiative. We recently launched our campaign #StopPlastic to do our bit and to end plastics, and we are delighted that those who have the power to bring about major change share this outlook. Tuareg Responsable is an initiative through which we aim to make the world a better place for everyone.

Finally, we will watch a blacksmith practising his ancestral craft, say our goodbyes and return to the lodge to collect our bags before heading to the multicultural town of Mto Wa Mbu.
Arrival around midday for a typical meal prepared by a local woman. After lunch, a local guide will take us to visit a primary school and an orphanage. We continue walking through the village and banana plantations, watching traditional Makonde woodcarvers at work. We will visit the local banana brewery and, if we wish, sample the beer.

Day 2
Arrival in Nairobi. Departure for Lake Naivasha. Safaris

We will arrive at the airport in the Kenyan capital very early in the morning. After completing arrival formalities, we will meet our staff, who will take us to the hotel for a shower and breakfast before starting the tour.
Our first destination is Lake Naivasha, one of the many lakes along the Rift Valley. We will arrive by mid-morning, as the journey takes around two hours. There will be time for a boat safari on the lake and a walking safari along its shores. With virtually no big cats, the park allows activities on foot, offering a closer connection with the surroundings than is possible elsewhere.

Day 3
Naivasha to Masai Mara. Afternoon safari

We leave Naivasha early in the morning and head south to the first major highlight of the route: the Maasai Mara reserve, undoubtedly one of the continent’s most visited parks. We will arrive in time for an afternoon safari before sunset.

Day 4
Full day in Masai Mara

We spend the day exploring the park from our camp in search of animals. The Mara is rich in biodiversity and, though challenging, it is possible to spot the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros).
We will also try to find the great migratory herds of herbivores moving in search of grazing.
We'll finish the day again at our camp.

Day 5
Departure for the border. Arrival at Lake Victoria

We leave the Maasai Mara behind and head west to Isebania, on the Tanzania–Kenya border. Here we change vehicles and staff before entering Tanzania. We end the journey at Speke Bay, on the shores of vast Lake Victoria, a freshwater sea around which the lives of many people in its basin revolve. We will reach our lakeside accommodation in the early afternoon, with time to settle in and take a walk to watch the sun set over the water.

Day 6
Boat trip on the lake. Departure for the Serengeti. Safari

Early in the morning we will board a boat to explore part of the bay, seeing the landscape from another perspective and watching local fishermen at work.
Later, we will set off for Serengeti National Park. Our safari begins as soon as we enter the park. Our camp is in the heart of the Serengeti, in the Seronera area.

Day 7
Full day on safari. Departure for Ndutu (NCA)

We will dedicate this day to a full game drive. Alongside the wildlife, we can enjoy the Serengeti’s vast plains, where it is possible to appreciate the horizon dipping with the curvature of the Earth. Herbivores, big cats, birds and reptiles are spread across the park, and our aim is to come home with as many sightings as possible. Given the park’s size, we will rely on our guide’s skill and radio communications.
Late in the day we head to the Ndutu area, on the boundary between the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where we spend the night. This brings us closer to our next destination: Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 8
Safari in Ngorongoro Crater. Departure for Karatu

Early in the morning we will be among the first to descend into the Ngorongoro caldera (Ngorongoro is one of the many volcanoes, some active, in the conservation area that bears its name).
A game drive in Ngorongoro is one of the highlights of any East African safari. A relatively small area, less than 20 km in diameter, is home to resident populations of numerous species, earning it comparisons to Noah’s Ark. It is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can see rhinoceroses. Colonies of flamingos are often seen on the shores of Lake Magadi.
After the crater safari, we take the track uphill to Karatu and settle into our accommodation for two nights.

Day 9
Lake Eyasi: Hadzabe and Datoga experience. Return to Karatu

Our route takes on a different character today as we travel to the nearby Mangola Valley / Lake Eyasi. We aim to find a Hadzabé clan, a semi-nomadic ethnic group related to the San of the Kalahari, living in conditions not very different from those of the Neolithic period. We will try to accompany these hunter-gatherers on a hunt and observe their way of life in this harsh environment.
Nearby, we can visit a Datoga village. The Datoga are related to the Maasai but have adopted a settled way of life, based mainly on agriculture.
After the day we will return to our accommodation in the Karatu area.

Day 10
Visit to Mto wa Mbu and cycling in Manyara. Departure for Kilimanjaro.

On our last day, we will spend more time with local people. We head to the nearby town of Mto wa Mbu, the area’s commercial hub, where market stalls line the lively streets. We will explore the town and its market, and can also visit some traditional homes. Local “Mamas” will prepare our lunch today.
We will stretch our legs on a pleasant bike ride along the trails around Lake Manyara before returning to the vehicles and heading to our accommodation near Kilimanjaro Airport, where we will spend our last night.

Day 11
Flight to Zanzibar. Transfer to the beach

Breakfast and transfer to the airport to fly to Zanzibar. Arrival and transfer to the beach accommodation.

Days 12 to 13
Stay on the beach

Full days at the beach. Walks, swimming, island excursions and trips in a traditional dhow are some of the options.

Day 14
Airport transfer. Return flight

Depending on the flight departure time, transfer to the airport to check in and board the return flight.

Day 15
Arrival in your home city

After the connecting flights, arrival in your home city and end of the trip.

Tailor-made trips for families summer 2019

Families increasingly ask us for a special private trip just for them: what we in the travel industry call tailor-made family trip.

Travelling together as a family can be complicated for adults: it takes patience and a little luck. That is why we think it is a good idea to offer tailor-made trips for families seeking something special, with more privacy, peace of mind and reassurance when travelling with children and/or teenagers.

Most trips on our website can be adapted to each family's needs; however, there are some itineraries that are especially advisable.

If we choose our itinerary thinking it will be a tailor-made family trip, we can turn safaris in South Africa into tours by reserves where there is no malaria, staying at campsites with swimming pools while driving a 4×4 along Namibia’s tracks; or replace temple visits for a fun afternoon of Pokémon in Tokyo.

Most of our trips can be adapted to the needs of each family or group of friends. Please speak to the specialist for your destination.

Tanzania bans entry of plastics into the country

It's official. According to a statement issued today by the Tanzanian Government, from 1 June 2019, Tanzania to ban the entry of plastics to the country. Finally!

Plastic, especially single-use plastic, is a problem worldwide. A highly polluting material that often has a life span of a few seconds, and is rapidly destroying our planet.

Many African countries are determined to address this. Tanzania, alongside South Africa, Rwanda, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritania and Morocco, is among the first to take steps towards a total ban on manufacturing and using plastic bags. And now Tanzania is the first to take decisive action.

How does this new law affect you trip to Tanzania? Let's take a look.

When does the regulation enter into force?

From 1 June 2019.

What kind of plastics are prohibited?

is The entry of plastic bags into Tanzania is prohibited of all kinds and of all single-use plastics.

Instead, plastic bags with zip closures, as well as packaging of medicinal products, will be allowed.

How will the Tanzanian Government prevent the entry of plastics?

Checks will be carried out at airports and land borders to prevent plastics entering the country, so the government asks travellers to leave them out of their luggage. No penalties are planned for now, but plastics found will be removed by the authorities.

In Tuareg, we think it's a great initiative. If we were just starting with our campaign #StopPlastic to do our bit to tackle plastic waste, we are delighted to know that those with the power to bring about major change share our aims.

On our side, for all of us trips to Tanzania we will give away our metal water bottle, helping us avoid single-use plastic bottles.

The metal water bottle is part of Tuareg Responsable's #StopPlastic campaign, an initiative to help make the world a better place for everyone.

The Faces of Human Diversity

On many occasions we travel to know new things and discover wonderful places, landscapes and sensations. But there's something else, without which travel would make no sense. Something that vividly reflects all the above, the true essence of the place: local population.

Over our many years of experience we have travelled the world, crossing paths with men, women and children from every corner of the globe. Sometimes they greeted us with smiles; at other times with wise, innocent or curious looks. In every case, their faces have remained etched in our memories and those of our travellers, becoming part of us and ensuring we never forget them.

In their honour, we have put together a collection of images of people we have met on our travel. They are the faces of the human diversity.

Finland: the northern lights and much more

Last March, our photographer and guide Ignasi Rovira based himself in Finland to receive our groups.

As well as being an excellent guide, Ignasi is an excellent photographer. In the afternoons, he organised activities and group talks to help travellers understand this phenomenon, covering its physics and astronomy as well as photography and time-lapse techniques.

Ignasi was the coordinator of 3 groups on the trip Northern lights in Saariselkä. They all saw the Northern Lights at night and enjoyed an exciting programme of winter adventures during the day.

The northern lights are one of the great natural spectacles visible from our planet.

Ignasi has travelled all over the world and guided groups of Viajes Tuareg on a large number of photography tours and trips, always ensuring that travellers return delighted.

Here are the images he brought back.

The best street food

The best street food in the world

There are two things we love when we travel; one is to get lost in the places we visit and the other, go to sleep on a full stomach.

When we travel around the world, we can enter a good restaurant and spend a little money but, to be honest, we prefer to walk the streets in search of the best street food in the world, authentic local cuisine.

Here are some of the the best street foods of the world, so you can taste them on your travels or try cooking them at home (Viajes Tuareg cannot take responsibility for your culinary skills):

China - Baozi

Known as "buns‘, this Street food in China has recently become popular in our country. Baozi are steamed buns that can be filled with all kinds of ingredients: meat or vegetables for lunch or dinner, or chocolate, for example, for dessert.

In China they are everywhere, so I'm sure those who Travel with us to China You can taste it.

Thailand – Pad thai

If you have already travelled to Thailand, you have probably tried Pad Thai at some point. This traditional Thai street food is not only delicious but also very affordable and usually appeals to everyone. It consists of stir-fried rice noodles with chicken or seafood, such as prawns or shrimp. Egg, coriander, soya, peppers and a sauce are also used, varying according to where you eat it.

Greece – Gyros

There is no need travel to Greece to eat a gyro, although the best are undoubtedly those we find wandering through the streets of Greek cities.

For a great gyros, we need good pita bread, roast lamb or pork and the distinctive tzatziki sauce (yoghurt with garlic, mint and cucumber). We can then add something fresh, such as onion, lettuce or tomato (or all three!).

Japan – Takoyaki

Takoyaki (たこ焼き) is a small fritter made from flour-and-egg batter, filled with grilled octopus and served with sauce. In fact, “tako’ is octopus, and "yaki’ is griddled. Although this Japanese street food originally comes from the Kansai region, is now eaten almost throughout the country, and is delicious!

If you don't dare cook it at home, always You can travel with us to Japan!

If you have walked through Sicily’s streets, you have probably seen arancini at many food stalls. Their shape may vary depending on where on the island you eat them, but they all have one thing in common,
