As well as the unique opportunity to witness a total eclipse and the northern lights, this trip offers spectacular landscapes of rugged islands: a paradise for hikers, naturalists and bird lovers.

Volcanology in Sicily: Mount Etna and Stromboli

The Etna, the most active volcano of Italy and one of the most active on the planet, is a must-see for any lover of vulcanology.

On our journey Hiking in the volcanoes of Sicily and the Aeolian Islands combine the opportunity to climb Etna, the visit to Stombroli and a combination of Greek, Roman and Byzantine archaeological remains.

Travelling by train, minibus, boat, ferry and above all on foot, we spend 10 days exploring this part of the Mediterranean, an endless source of inspiration for the Greeks and Romans.

Mount Etna

To ascend to the Etna must be hired locally. Weather and volcanic conditions are decisive, and a local volcano guide is compulsory. The trek to Etna does not require exceptional fitness. With an elevation gain of 1,346 metres and a round-trip distance of 15 kilometres, our greatest challenge may be the altitude: we reach more than 3,000 metres. The whole route usually takes 6 hours in normal weather conditions.

Catalan independence supporters in Cambodia?

Our dear friend and collaborator Daniel Souteranyt is putting the finishing touches to our routes in Cambodia.

He lives in the Southeast Asia for two decades and is currently touring the south of Cambodia, checking hotel standards and looking for new activities and experiences for our customers.

In Kep, a small town on the Cambodian coast, was surprised by these curious scenes, which they have shared with us along with their impressions.

Hello, everyone.

As some of you know, I've been doing a tour of the south of Cambodia to visit hotels and explore new options for beach itineraries.

I stopped to sleep in Kep, a village once known as the “Saint-Tropez” of Asia but today it is smaller than Camprodón or Loeches, though by the sea, with a rather unappealing muddy beach. Cambodians (who, like many Asians, do not swim in the sea) are very fond of Kep, especially its crab market, where you can feast on this prized delicacy for very little money.

For me. Kep is just a stop along the way, with little to do except watch the best sunset in Cambodia and feast on seafood.

But in that town of the Cambodia deep in which Catalonia must be as familiar to its inhabitants as “Alpha Centauri» I took some very interesting photographs at the stalls in the small market. Here they are. Look closely at the bracelets.

One of the greats: Luis Davilla, jury member for the Photography and Video Competition 2013

He’s not in the photographs because he’s the one taking them. We met Luis in Mongolia and we were fascinated by his work and his character: the quintessential photographer.

A photography trip to Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression: the return

The trip is over, now it's time to process the experience at home.

The group reached Addis Ababa on the 17th. After a day of rest following the final stage in Tigray and discover the unusual churches in the capital of Ethiopia, they boarded their flight home. Many feelings, including climb Erta Ale, need to be fully digested.

Here is a selection of photos and comments from Juancho Pozuelo , a friend and collaborator of Mirada Viajera, the photographer accompanying us on this trip to Ethiopia.

«We are in Kombolcha, you might say the last trace of urban life before heading into the Danakil. The market for Sembete is very colourful and noisy.”

Photography trip to the Danakil Depression: the latest news

«More than a photography trips is a personal and photographic experience. It is impossible to imagine a better place to take photographs.»

This is how this journey is defined Juancho Pozuelo, the guide and photographer accompanying this trip.

The group has arrived at the Lake Afrera and, after spending the night in a spectacular setting, they headed towards the Erta Ale volcano.

“After seeing the first traces of lava and spending five hours bouncing along a track, we reached Lake Afrera and its salt mines. Tonight we’re sleeping at the exact spot shown in the photo published on 5 November, taking night photographs and bathing in the extremely salty Lake Afrera.”
