PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION 2012. Meet the winners

Once again, extraordinary images show us the world through travellers' eyes. There are few conventional tourist postcard shots, and the quality is unusually high for a competition of this kind.

THE COMPETITION AND THE JURY
One hundred and eighty-four participants and almost 900 photographs in total. During the selection process, those of us who work at Viajes Tuareg choose our favourites, voting again and again until we reach the twenty finalists — twenty-one in this edition. These are then handed over to the jury, whose members this year are Ángel Martínez Bermejo and Rafa Pérez, who are responsible for the Kamaleon Travel blog.

You can see our selection on facebook:  2012 Photo Competition Finalists

And the winners of this year's edition are:

1ST PRIZE: 1000 € – ARIADNA SOTO

A talk introducing our Madagascar trip

Next Tuesday, 12 February at 19:30, there will be an open presentation and discussion for anyone interested in travelling to Madagascar, or simply find out more about this fascinating island on Africa.

With our dear friends Sergi, Sylvia and Jaume, stars of RTVE’s “Españoles por el Mundo” programme (Watch video), we will discover a different side of the island from the one offered by conventional trips.

Trip to Madagascar | Special itinerary

Our route for this summer, accompanied by our "semi-native" guides, offers an exclusive itinerary: Experience Madagascar: down the Tsiribihina River, the Tsingy and the south. Discovering the distinctive flora and fauna of the western region, canoeing down the Tsiribihina River and meeting local people at the markets will give us a feel for the essence of Madagascar.

We look forward to seeing you at the office of Viajes Tuareg, Mariner Passatge 1 bis 08025 – BARCELONA.
You can contact us at via Facebook or also in Twitter.

TANZANIA. The Great African Migration

February. Special departure guided by a naturalist.

See the Tanzania trip dossier

An exciting time: between mid-February and early March, large herds of wildebeest and zebras move between the south-central Serengeti and the Ndutu plains in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is when wildebeest calves are born, and action is guaranteed: the explosion of life is spectacular. Witnessing this spectacle with a naturalist makes the experience even richer.

TANZANIA. The great migration.

Tuareg enters the cloud.

The site and the Tuareg Blog have a new engine!

Tuareg in the cloud

The bodywork is the same, but we’ve changed the engine!
The cloud (Cloud Server) is here to stay.

Tuareg, aware that shared infrastructure can help reduce both the physical space required and the energy needed to run and cool everything, has embraced new technologies without hesitation.

Our new cloud server not only consumes less energy but is twice as fast as our old dedicated server, making photos and PDF trip information available instantly.

A small step towards a greener 2013.

Travelling out of season is always an advantage!

We've already published our routes for winter and spring

For those lucky enough to travel in the low season, we have designed a range of trips with cultural and outdoor activities — hiking, cycling, mountaineering or cross-country skiing, for example — suited to the time of year.

Among our group trips with special departures this winter and spring, we would like to highlight a few destinations.

In Asia, a cultural and religious event. Trip departing on 5 February. The huge Maha Kumbh Mela pilgrimage in India is a Hindu spiritual celebration held every twelve years, drawing millions of pilgrims to Prayag. Over two days, we will witness the ritual bathing of “Basant Panchami”.

Which is the cheapest country to travel to?

Tripadvisor has recently published the list of the cheapest cities in the world for travel.

In order:

  1. Ha Noi, Vietnam (141,12 U$) see: In search of lost temples.
  2. Beijing, China (159,05U$)
  3. Bangkok, Thailand (161,90U$) see: Thailand: big adventures at lower prices.

The ranking is based on the price of a 4-star hotel, a dry martini, a taxi ride and dinner with white wine. But what happens if we replace “city” with “country”? What if, as well as accommodation and food, we consider outdoor activities and excursions?

Based on these criteria What is the cheapest country you have travelled in?

Northern lights in Finland – Photo: JM. Prat

The northern lights

In October the Arctic prepares for the arrival of winter; an ideal period for observation of The northern lights. We travelled to the island of Spitsbergen aboard the sailing boat Noorderlicht, just before sea ice blocked access.
