7 practical tips for travel photography

Before I start writing like a man possessed, I think it is useful to set out what we expect from a trip and from taking photographs.

I assume we see a journey as more than simply moving from one place to another. I hope you see it as an experience: a chance to enjoy ourselves, feel alive and learn. We travel to see the world as people elsewhere see it, and to try to feel what they feel. Viewed this way, travel is an excellent opportunity to learn in a completely different way: first-hand.

A new edition of our already traditional Photography and Video Contest is underway

Once again, as the summer season ends, we launch a new edition of the now traditional Travel Photography and Video Competition which organizes Viajes Tuareg.

The Trans-Siberian Railway turns 100

A hundred years is no small achievement. The railway line connecting Russia from end to end, the Trans-Siberian Railway, celebrates 100 years since its completion. On 5 October 1916, the final section of Eurasia’s most famous railway was finished. A bridge across the Amur River at Khabarovsk completed the last stretch of the main line of the Trans-Siberian. A bridge whose size earned it the name “Miracle of the Amur” in its day, and the final piece of a monumental engineering project.

Travel to Sicily at Easter - Photo by Daniel Dietz

The winner of this fifteenth edition is Aurèlia Manils, for sharing her opinion on trip with Tuareg a Italy to do hiking on the volcanoes of Sicily and in the Aeolian Islands. Here is their feedback.

7 spectacular snapshots of Iceland

Talk about Iceland is to speak of a destination where the forces of nature are overwhelming. Magma erupts violently from volcanoes, winds strengthen without warning, ice builds up layer upon layer, tectonic plates shift, waterfalls plunge with abandon and the earth takes on every imaginable colour. Together, these forces have shaped a landscape that draws in and mesmerises the unsuspecting traveller.

7 fabulous bridges in the world

The bridges are built to connect, and perhaps that is why we like them so much. Since the first ones appeared bridges in Bronze Age Greece, humans have kept building these structures, trying to bridge the distances between us. There are so many bridges that we have built, that today they represent an immense cultural heritage, treasures that tell us about history, culture and science. Undoubtedly, great platforms worth travel.

That's why we wanted to look at different bridges that we find in some of the countries we visit regularly. Here we go.

The Okavango Delta: a destination worth visiting

The Okavango is a mighty river that rises in Angola to make its way for 1000 km through Africa, crossing Namibia and ending his journey in the Kalahari Desert, in Botswana. But if it ends up in Botswana, where is the sea? Well, that is the interesting part: there is no sea. At its end, the Okavango River forms an ‘alluvial fan’: instead of flowing into the sea, its waters disappear into the arid lands of Botswana, leaving a spectacular landscape declared a World Heritage Site in 2014: The Okavango Delta.
